Just cleaned and lubed the chain using the guard in post #15 above - some may be interested in how it's used.
That mess on the guard is from about ten or so applications - I try to spray down the top/centre of the chain's bottom run
(BTW - those using WD40 - I really don't think you're doing your sprockets any favours)
