Spring start up- Good and Bad

Backed my 70 out of the garage, put some fresh, high octane race gas in the tank, checked the oil in all the places, drained the crankcase, aired the tires. Tickled the Amals and Good News! Started on the 3rd kick. Bad News! The oil pressure bypass plunger was stuck and pegged my oil pressure gauge at 100psi and promptly sprung the gauge. Now the gauge reads 40psi with the motor off! Oh well. With Nortons all can be repaired with time and money.
 
I hear 40 PSI is plenty adequate to run on but oh my the wet sump issues while parked with that pressure! I missed out on that particular flavor of Blank Brit Iron Starring State as no oil gauge to alert me. Commando's - if you got the time they sure take your money.

Have you cracked (loosened) a banjo to see if the pressure would release?
Changing just the guage shouldn't be that bad. The infrastructure, the pricey part, is already in place.
 
Duh he's done sprung his gauge with rather above 100 PSI so its needle reads 40 PSI w/o any pressure to release. Only time oil gauge matters is exactly this scenario > to check and set PRV on initial rebuild start ups. Norton had a temporary gauge kit for this, to be removed before riding off.
