That's a shame because it's a Lancaster that I'm looking for. I would settle for a Tempest though.

I will go up with ANYONE (properly licensed), in ANYTHING (properly airworthy), ANYTIME.

I know, I know, define "properly airworthy"...

Harry was a pretty COOL man , he kept his Stearman in its own barn with pretty well groomed grass runway …. few years back he had contract with big Grocery chain to grow 10 acres of cantaloupe , they bailed right at harvest time , no prob for Harry he contacted TV station , they brought cameras for a farm visit , Harry stood mid field and invited anyone who wanted his cantaloupe to come on down and pick as many as they wanted for free …. I heard later most of harvest went to good homes 😁

Just in case anyone’s looking for one…

What’s the best oil for a 12 cylinder Merlin ?

I buy it, ooooh no I can't even afford an electric start for the Norton.

I used to have a V12 RR Griffon engine from an Avro Shackleton. My Dad and I bought when the local RAF Air Cadets closed. It cost us £500 and about the same amount to transport it to my Dads garage. We actually passed on a couple of ejector seats that they offered to throw in with the Griffon for free. It was mounted to a run-up stand with gauges, radiator and a remote fuel supply. We never got it running as it was partially stripped and I was too busy with Uni and Dad was into Ford Model As but we would marvel at its beauty. The rockers were all polished and serialized. Just beautiful. We sold when I needed a deposit for my first house.

I set up a special lift rig years ago and discharged (container crane) a Mitsubishi Zero...(one of 3 left in the world flying) out of the lower hold of a container ship from the states (lashed to a 40" flatrack)
The American owner brought it out to NZ to fly her at "Wings over Wanaka" (air pageant) ...I would hate to think what that would be worth....was a very nervous lift 😬

Man... time flies

I saw a WWII Zero, powered by an American made engine, (a P&W?), at an air show near Dallas. Did not realize so few were air worthy. A bunch made, minus 5000 downed by F6F's, minus 400 in the holds of the ships that sleep in Truk Lagoon, minus operating losses, equals not many left!

Sad when another of these old warbids is lost, as is inevitable if they keep flying.

Slick

Wow - wish I was 30 years younger and quite a bit richer!
