this should pretty much be a no-brainer, BUT, i must be doing something wrong with my cable routing. i've pulled the end out of the cable where it's crimped over the outer covering 3X now. something's wrong. from the speedometer, i'm running the cable down the front frame member, and horizontal accross the lower frame member, and this is where i'm thinking i'm doing something wrong. fairly sure i have enough slack in the cable to allow for rear swing arm travel. something's going on here. QUESTION - on the bottom horizontal frame member should the cable route on the inner side or outer side of the frame? the part of the gearbox where the cable screws in, should that be positioned horizontally or angled slightly down? pretty sure i'm using the proper length cable - 69 inches. i've had pretty good luck with emgo products, so i just ordered a new emgo cable from the bonniville shop.

Mine drops down the right side and runs along the lower frame then hops to the bottom swing arm tube. No twists or sharp bends, although its currently not in use it worked fine from day one.

Are you saying the crimped end is pulling off the astic cable sleeve? Maybe just needs a re-crimping or plastic has some wear/damage.

that's exactly what's happening. i have a crimping tool that should work - maybe i'll give that a try. i finally get all the e-starter issues resolved, carbs seem to be balanced nicely, bikes running great, and this happens. :(

Could put a dab of epoxy under the crimp then re-squeeze it to get you going until new cable arrives.

Joe,
Your cable should be running on the Inside of the cross brace- timing side(the one where the side stand is located ). 72-74. Keep the cable loose at the swing arm with lots of loop on a zip tie just enough so the cable doesn't fowl the rear wheel.
Cheers,
Tom
