What is the preferred grease for rear axle speedo drive?

ARP assembly lube. I have used this lube on a lot of engine builds and car restorations.

Apply very sparingly to avoid slinging. I rebuilt the speedo drive unit almost 3 years ago and the lube is still doing its job.

I used to use LM grease but found that after removing a drive gearbox the gear teeth would often be bone dry and the grease stuck uselessly to the inside of the housing. I also found hardened grease would build up behind the drive ring eventually making it very stiff to turn so now I use gear oil.

Interesting.
I have this assembly oil in a tiny bottle and will try it instead of grease .
My rear tire is pooched in about a week so when the rear wheel comes off I'll clean out any caked up older grease and apply some assembly oil sparingly.
