The lights for my Speedo and Tach do not, well, light up.
I believe they used to work, but I recently had a TriSpark installed in place of a Joe Hunt magneto. Other than the tach/speedo lights, everything seems to work fine.
I'm not very experienced with electrical, so I'll outline what I've done (barely anything), and maybe one of you folks can help, or, give me "just call your mechanic" ...

- Ensured other lights are working. Regular main headlamp beam, high beam (both via switch and handle-bar mounted button), turn signals (front/back).
- Tested the speedo/tach bulbs, using a multimeter. To be honest, I don't know what I'm doing, and originally tested for voltage (this is what you're working with, folks), then I looked it up online, and I guess I should have tested for continuity, so I did so. The bulb registered 5.0 when set to OHMs.
- Tried testing the ports the bulb went into - no results here (set to 12v and 200v - not sure what to tr - got nothing either way).
- Pulled out the headlamp, checked the wiring, but had NO idea what I was checking. If it would help I could post an image of what's in there, but everything seems connected, other than one stray "green" wire that's connected to nothing, but is taped off at the end with electrical tape.

Again, I'm stumped - if anybody has any ideas, I'd appreciate it.

The tach and speedo lights are both fed by a brown/green ("NG" on the wiring diagram) so I suggest you trace the brown/green from the instruments back to the harness and check for any unplugged, loose or corroded connections or any damaged or broken wires. Also do a similar check of the bulb ground wiring.

I'd first look at where they USED TO BE PLUGGED IN, under the tank. You are aware of the flakey female bullet connectors being cracked/broken inside the rubber? Change them ALL out and save yourself trouble

Well, thanks for the responses so far, however, being VERY inexperienced with electricity, I'm having a problem even understanding the diagrams. This is frustrating for me, especially, considering I'm a network engineer, which means I follow or create *network cabling* diagrams on a daily basis. This is just beyond me.

"network cabling diagrams" but no cable pin-outs, correct?
