Special Tool Neglect

I was digging through stuff yesterday and I was bummed when I found these old "special tools" with this "patina"! They are now sitting in some #2 diesel and Marvel Mystery oil recuperating! I am so ashamed!
This is mostly Triumph stuff. Thought some of the youngsters might have fun identifying the old stuff. I plan to sell them after cleaning and inspection for damage. I also found a set of Jomo 15 cams that I've had stashed for many moons. Fortunately they were wrapped in an oil saturated cloth and stored in a plastic bag. They aren't for sale. They are going to a local friend in trade.

Ever seen one of these? (Sorry about the focus, I was feeling no pain last night and that was in focus to me!) :shock:

That tappet guide block drift was brand new when I was 20yrs old. As you can tell I replaced many many o'rings! When I started wrenching in the late sixties, T-handles were the hot set-up and I still like them. (old habits are hard to break!) Gotta luv that finely engineered inspection plug tool modification! :lol:


The allens are cut up. Can anybody guess what I used them for?


There's no theme here, just some stuff I grabbed to clean up and put away where they belong. To be honest I had forgotten that I still had some of these.

Note: I'm going to be "out-of-pocket" until Tues so I don't think I'll be able to respond to questions about my E-start parts for sale until then (depending on WiFi service). Have a good weekend everyone.

Cool, profeesional carb vacuum gauges and just in time found steel items. I have to oil rag coat an seal in gerased lid tins or my stuff looks like that in a few weeks. Any less than full armor exposes them rats and their urine, the bugs and their acid bodies break down.

Although I do have a pair of good ole vacuum gauges that's not who this is. This unit is a vacuum guage for scavenge pressure and a pressure guage for tire pressure (just seein' if ya paying attention :lol. I was told that it is a Triumph factory special tool item from the late 50s or early 60s. If anybody knows anything about it I would like to know more. Can't find anything on the web about it.

It called a Lubrication System Test Set, Model JT-763 Manufactured by Dunleer/Made in the USA.

Speaking of old, this is 1973, I worked nights in the military just back from Nam. Walked into a Triumph and Norton dealership that was close to the base and told the owner that I would sweep the floor and clean the bathroom if he would let me use a corner in the back to build myself a scooter. He smiled and said sure and gave me a broom. Within weeks I raked the frame to sit level with the 8 over tubes and that 17" Yamaha wheel/brake/tire. When I started heatin' and beatin' the saddle part of the frame with a two by four, they guys in the shop thought I had lost my mind, except for Pete the Ser Mgr. Then when I bobbed the stock 71 fender and brazed the flair from a Kawasaki he became my friend on the spot. And he became my mentor and brother. Out of his personal stash he gave me a 72 Tiger top end and all the guts of a five speed tranny and help me paint and finish. This was the results. It died when I broadsided a Chrysler New Yorker at 60+ mph as she came from nowhere - centerpunched the centerpost. Sidestepped off the motorcycle, threw it down just before impact and hit the centerpost with my right shoulder and side of my body. Bounced off the car onto my feet and walked accross two lanes of traffic and past out. But I broke no bones. My scooter broke all of hers.



73 Dodge Dart 4speed, engine was stepped on long before warranty was up! :wink:

Yes lots of shitty things in this world and surface rust is one of them.
Special tools are priceless.
We live near the sea, so everything gets the old spray lube treatment on a regular basis.
Just another cross to bare.
