Hi.
I have some questions about the N15.
First:
- i know that P11 and Atlas match frame and engine but not the gearbox that has only five numbers, one less of the engine.
I have read that N15 gearbox matches with frame/engine: has the N15 gearbox a own prefix letters (as P11 .... or NA ...) or only numbers?
Second:
- are the rear mount engine/gearbox plates the same of P11?;
Third:
- can you post some pictures of the coils mount system and where they are fitted;
Fourth:
- can you post so e pictures of the battery tray;
Fifth:
- can you post some pictures of the master switch mount system and where it is fitted;
Sixth:
- have the 1967 N15 the spigotted cylinder top base?; in this case the head is different from not spigotted cylinde?.
Thanks for helping me.

The spigot on the top of the cylinder, and machined into the head, was finished in 1964.
After that, the cylinder top was flat, and the head wasn't machined for the spigot.
A 1967 cylinder or head shouldn't have or need the spigot.

Will leave the others for someone who knows them well !
You always have lots of questions, do you get your bikes all jumbled together as jigsaw puzzles ?

October 1965 was when the first non-spigotted engines appeared from serial number 114870.

So that would make them 1966 models, in factory parlance.
Where do you find that number written down ?

Hi.
I have two project bikes now with some parts missing.
I am finishing to rebuilt a P11 A now, and then i will start with a N15.
There is few leterrature about, so i disturb you, here!
Thanks.

Piero, the coils are mounted on the frame down-tube just below the seat mount on the two lugs with holes on either side of the frame tube, the coils point upwards, There are some rebuild photos in the AJS/Matchless page of this site and they show the coil mounting and other details. I will see if I have any detailed photos of my own bike to send you.

Hi Dave,
thank you so much.
When i started with P11 project i had no knowledge about.
After asking here a lot and study pictures and magazine and workshop manual, now i am very confident.
The problems was not about the engine, the gearbox, wiring, that i know well having an Atlas and Commandos, but forks, frame, fuel/oil tank, wheels, brakes, fenders, seat, transmission with stator fixed into the outer cover, etc., all new stuff for me.
The N15 project should have less problems; same Atlas forks (longer stanchions) and wheels (19 rear rim) and engine and gearbox and P11 transmission and wiring.
But i don't know much about frame, plates, and battery tray, and coils mount, etc.
But i don't fear, will be an enjoy.
Piero
