I wonder if Mr Smiths could be persuaded to make green dot faces for his new range of electronic instruments http://www.smithsspeedos.co.uk/ They already do Chronometric faces, grey faces and black faces, so I would have thought a green dot one wouldn't be too big an ask.
The electronic speedo gives you the option of using your original speedo drive with a special cable/hall sensor or setting up something from scratch.

I know when these first came out SRM in Wales said they were hoping to do the Green Globe type but I don't think they got around to doing this, maybe lack of demand?

I know I was looking for the lightening bolt NVT face, which was even a slimmer hope they would do this type!

I think it would take somebody like Andover Norton to assess the Norton market & see if there is enough demand to do a run of Green Globe/NVT. I'm unsure how these gauges are made, they might be done in small batches or in large quantities to keep cost down?

It might be possible for a bunch of guys from this board to look into getting a small batch of dial faces done and if they are done in small batches we might convince Smiths to use the faces we supply?

to bad it does not come with a better way to drive it. IMHO the drive box a 100.00+ dollar POS or puts the monkey on your back to make it work.

I have nothing to do with the company Puca (I wish!!!)

I contacted Puca in the UK who are doing the Smiths electronic gauges.

I got the reply from Patrick below, the guys seems to be on top of what Norton guys want, there are some restrictions on placing logos on the clock face due to the digital readout + some possible copyright issues with the Green Globe (Not sure if Andover Norton would have a problem with them using this logo?) but they seem to be trying to supply a gauge that we Norton guys might like.

I got sent a few pics of the gauges, I know I can uplaod to Photobucket but can I upload direct to a post if I'm a VIP member?

COPY OF EMAIL:

You raise a good point or two here, we have been contacted a good deal and
spoken to Norton owners at the Stafford shows about the digital
Norton-specific gauges and we have been making progress towards solving
these issues.

The first issue being that the original graphics to distinguish the Smiths
units from the units fitted to Triumph, BSA etc, were sited (as you know)
below the pointer.
The new Smiths digital units have the lcd display below the pointer and so
we can't print graphics here.
This being the case the only instrument we can replicate as a visual replica
is the tacho, but a digital tacho with either globe or NVT logo would not
match our digital speedo as one would have the logo above the pointer and
the other below.

The second issue is a minor concern but as we are part of the industry have
a an eye to it, Andover-Norton use the "graded-globe" as their trading logo,
the image is not copyright protected but we would be cautious about using
this graphic on a new, as opposed to a refurbed unit.

Bearing the above in mind we have decided to offer a new "digital"
interpretation of the globe and dot logos and offer one of our own, a simple
graphic that has reference to the originals but also emphasises and promotes
our new digital units for classic Nortons, I have attached a picture for you
to see.
The NVT arrow logo is no problem as no one has or claims rights to it and we
will make a short run of these with the logo sited above the pointer with
the small inscription "digital" below it.

In all cases you will see that if the owners wish to have a standard look to
the machine using digital gauges, they will have to change the units as a
pair. The product pictures attached will be live on the site next week
(http://www.smithsspeedos.co.uk)

We are always interested in your thoughts and your members feedback.

Regards

Thanks L.A.B.,

Just updated post with some photo's.

Those aren't bad, but I'd rather see the green globe even as a offshoot, or just the Smiths logo. I'd consider them if mine go, but it's probably not going to happen. Nice to see new products though. I could see it on a custom job.

So while at Barber Mr. Comstock showed off his electronic Smith gauges.

Smiths electronic instruments

Since they did seem to come to fruition I wonder if something like this would work?

Around $500 for the set (you need to include the speed sensor).

The gauges like mine should be available from Andover soon -if not now. They work great and I just use a prox sensor to sense the disk brake bolts so no speedo drive. Jim

Andover show them in their October newsletter, around 150 - 160 pound each, excl VAT and postage.

How do you get the newsletter. I didn't see anything on their site.

I get the newsletter second hand, someone in our club gets it emailed and passes it on. Not sure whether it is intended as a trade issue or for all, it is headed "Dear Customer" so i assume is for all?
The website seems to take a little while to catch up.

If you register with our Simon, you get the newsletter sent: simon.amos@andover-norton.co.uk

I just got Simon's latest information on the green spot speedos and tachos and will put them up on the "News" page tonight. Simon has tested them on his own Commando- yes, we Andover Norton people ride Commandos to work! I rode mine to work this morning, too!- and has sorted the finer points.

I would have caught it if you'd put it on your Facebook and Twitter feeds too.

Swooshdave,
You are right, we should have done that. Will get it done this week.

There are free services that will cross post to multiple social networks. Let me look it up and I'll get back to you, probably via email.

To purchase the new digital speedo and the required hall sensor is expensive
especially if you already have a working speedo gearbox in place

Word in the trade is EMGO are about to produce replacement clocks with the Norton green globe and blue spot dials
So I would hang fire as they will retail as per Triumph around £50.00 / $75.00 per clock

if they work as well as the Triumph / BSA clocks they will be a more economical replacement

The speedo sensor isn't that bad.

And the price on the gauges is really reasonable considering how much rebuilt analogs go for. One more thing to go to zero maintenance. Can't complain.

SWOOSH DAVE

Still a Big difference in unit cost $225.00 per instrument plus sensor and blanking plugs etc
$500 if you buy tach and speedo and the required parts from AN
AS for Zero maintenance only time will tell ????

I personally have had lots of issues with SCITSU electronic tachos which require specialist repair on a regular basis ( at a cost )

EMGO CLOCKS $150 the pair and tried and a tested design may be mechanical but so were OEM
And if they do happen screw up after three years bin and replace at $75.00 per pop you can afford to

I have had a set of grey face EMGO fitted on a Triumph T100 for 5 years without problem so they are good value for $75.00 each

Some people seem to have problems with everything electronic, the same goes for ignitions......
We have run a Scitsu rev counter in our Norton rotary racing days on the bike for about 5 racing seasons, and have now run a Scitsu on the Commando racer for about 15 years with no problem, charging it as and when needed, no further maintenance let alone repairs required.
You may have mounted it rigitly, which Scitsu warns off and which most probably leads to probelms. We used the rubber mounting system that came with the instrument from Scitsu.
