Congratulations Paul, Jim and your families! The bike looks fantastic and the room was right behind you as you received your awards, Paul. It was very a touching tribute to your Dad.
Cheers
Mike

I have tried somewhat to follow the story of sir eddies rocket and If I remember correctly,
the last time at bonneville the bike didn't run.

I was curious as to if this bike has ever been ridden?

what is the current record speed that you are chasing?
who is going to be riding it?

It was great to see the bike again at the rally, Paul (and thanks for the killer IPA). Looking forward to seeing it run on the salt again in a few weeks.

Thank you all for the kind words its has been a journey and looking forward to getting it back to the salt.

Mark, you are correct on the bikes last trip to the salt not being able to make a run. Since then the bike has had been breathed on by Comstock and had over 20 hours of dyno time on the new setup. You can read back a couple of pages of the tread to see the dyno run and check out the progress of the motor build on a tread by Jim. "Sir Eddy's engine"

The record for 500cc MP-G is 114.58 and the fairing class MPS-PG is 116.87 both held by a 500 Buell.
I will be riding the bike in honor of my father.

If I may add to Paul's answer, the bike has been ridden. Paul mentioned that he wasn't able to make a formal run at Bonneville, but he did get to run the bike up to reasonably high speed on the salt behind the pit area several times. He had serious problems with the engine not producing the power or rpm they needed, but he did get the bike up to speed enough to demonstrate that it was very stable, and that all the other bits worked as planned. When they left after the event, I don't recall them having any issues to deal with except the engine-related ones.

More info on that here on page 10 of this thread

Now that they have the engine sorted, I really expect them to put down some serious speeds this year, way above the current records. Assuming, of course, that the Bonneville fairies favor them.

Yesterday August 10th was my Father's Birthday, he would have been 80 years old. For his birthday I loaded up the bike and headed off to Eric's at Alternitive Metals to make the new oil tank that will fit under the seat instead of up by the fuel cell on the top of the bike. I was out to Eric's last Thursday and Saturday making final brackets for the pipes, carbs, moving the battery box to make room for the new oil tank and new mounts on the fuel cell. Our goal was to get the oil tank fitted and welded up but managed to burn 20 hours those two days on all the other things needing to be looked to and never got to the oil tank besides cutting it out.

It was fitting to be working with Eric on my dads birthday to fulfill his dream. I rolled in around 3:00 PM and finished up around 11:30 PM. I would have to say that if my dad was still with us it would have been one of the best birthday gifts yet.

He was there with us!

Good luck on the salt next week, Paul. Sorry I won't be there to cheer you on. Life has interfered with my plans again, and I won't be at either Bonneville or the Miller races. I'm confident you will come back with records in hand this time, particularly with Jim there to help.

You better get that bottle of Stranahans packed up for UPS..... Jim

2016 Bonneville Speed Trails was a success for Sir Eddy's Rocket and the Norton Brand.
We had quite the group attending in honor of my dad with Jim Comstock tuning, my fabricator Eric Gustin, Mom, my wife Paige and daughter, brothers and sister and families and friends.
The pits was well represented with the Norton brand...

We set two records in the 500 naked class and the faired class taking it from Buell set in 2009 and 2010.

New AMA records for Sir Eddy's Rocket
M-PG 500 119.151 on an old record set in 2010 of 114.854
MPS-PG 500 123.282 on an old record set in 2009 of 116.874

What an incredible experience filled with anxiety waiting to see how the bike would perform.
The very first run we set the fastest time just 2/10th of a second over the previous record giving us an opportunity for a return run.
Sir Eddy's Rocket

On the return run we increased the speed almost 4 MPH to 118.747 ave.

Jim just rather calm, after the first run a saw a little smirk on his face for the rest of the event.

Sir Eddy's Rocket

We took our time and made small adjustments to insure that we were going the right direction and had one more run the same day of 119.245 but ran out of time for a return so we headed back to the hotel to celebrate a great opening day.

The next morning we set out to push it up and we did with a down run of 118.453 and a return of 119.849 for a new record in the naked MPG500 Class of 119.151.

It was now time to put the fairing on and see what we can do with the same tune in the MPSPG500 class.

and that's what we did... 122.245 down with a return of 124.320 for a new record for Sir Eddy's Rocket of 123.282

When we were all done we had to head to the Salt Flats Café and put Sir Eddy on the wall of fame with the many legends including Burt Monroe.
Sir Eddy is looking down on us with a big smile saying we did it boys!

A good photo-essay and a Great achievement!
Congratulations to you all for the records and for keeping the Norton brand proud.

Well done sir's. You made it happen, whilst the rest of us just talk about how good we would be!

Or, put more poetically:
"All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible."

Thank you, I might just steal this quote from T.E. for the video!

Why not? He was a huge bike fan and speed freak so I'm sure he would approve!

Would even look good added discreetly to that gorgeous fairing ...!
