The six brackets I have on my Mk2 are all chrome, and four of them are either peeling or pitted badly. So, I ordered some locally that were sourced from AN. I just got them today, and they are rough zinc sort of finish, though one of them has smooth chrome edges. I was expecting them to be polished chrome, like were on bike (and on my Mk3, IIRC).

Now I see on the new AN site (which was not available when I ordered these) that they show the more matte finish.

Were these stock parts originally polished chrome or the more matte finish?

There was only one set of part numbers for the Roadster from 1970-1974. My original (one owner) '73 Mk V 750 has dull chrome or cad plated muffler mounting plates. However, for many years DomiRacer sold blister packs of mounting plates and rubber buffers in which the plates were shiny chrome. I know this doesn't answer your question, but the parts books do not indicate if the plates are chrome or dull. It is possible that they changed the specification for '74.

If you're not concerned with originality and you want them shiny you can get them in stainless steel that is polished. Can't remember who sells them but they shouldn't be hard to find.

they are readily available in polished stainless in the UK ,try Walridge they deal with Wassell who make them in stainless
