I successfully aerosol painted my black side panels a couple of weeks ago, but used the die cut AN e-start decals.
Best way I found to remove old ones was to heatgun from the inside face until the decal softened then lightly scrape off with plastic or wooden lolly stick, didn,t worry the old paint.
If your 140 degree is fahrenheit, that,s only 60 degree centigrade so can go up to boiling water temp 212f/100c. May work for your stubborn older type decals,
