Hey Aussie 916 riders,

Any of you oft ignored lovers of the marque have an update on the Australian importer that will (hopefully) replace Frasers?

My Dealer (Brisbane M/C) have heard squat. As we know, all warranty support is on hold and has been for months. I am waiting for the oil in air box/breather mod kit and a hugger - 4 months and counting. Anybody have any current info?

PS. I love my 916 more than beer, vegemite and maybe even my wife! Shhhhh! That’s a secret!

It may not help but when I bought my decat from Frasers, in early October, I asked if I need a remap and this was the response I got:-

"We no longer liaise with Rocker Motorcycles. In QLD you can refer to Brisbane Motorcycles. I believe your bike will indeed need re-mapping."

Prior to that they said:-
"We are currently going through a change / transition to a new distributor, as soon as Norton has finalised this they will announce the new distributor.
We’ve enjoyed bringing the brand back to the Australian market and greatly appreciate your purchase during that time."

I visited BMC who are just down the road from me and they knew nothing. Rockers also sent out a survey request recently and still have Norton on their web page.

Hi all, thank you for your responses.

I am interested in the link to the carbon fibre hugger however, I would need to be sure that it is of the same pattern/weave as the factory carbon. What I am trying to do is pay the difference between the cost of replacing the fractured original hugger and the carbon fibre item from the factory.

Thanks also for links to purchase the oil in air box/crankcase breather kit however, I am still in the first year of my warranty and as such would like it replaced under warranty. This will occur when the importer is sorted out and warranty work recommenses here in Aus. I can put up with draining the oil from my air box after each ride; putting up with my riding mates hanging shit on me for doing so also gives me some sort of perverted pleasure. ‘its British, it’s suppose to leak - it’s designed in!

Thanks also to Norton (Anon). Don’t misinterpret my post, I am delighted with my machine, minor faults and all and sincerely hope that Norton go from strength to strength. However, I am lucky enough to have alternate machines to ride. I know of others who are off the road (on two wheels) until the importer/distributer issue is resolved. Their patience may be a tad thinner than mine.

Long live Norton - real British steel.

Hi Paul, hope that you are well,

Please let me know how well matched the carbon fibre weave is to the front mudguard/bikini fairing. I will purchase this if the match is good. Sorry to use you as a guiney pig

That I do not know but simply contact AF-1 racing through their online contact form here and ask that question. They are very responsive and I'm sure they'll answer your question, just be specific. https://www.af1racing.com/store/Scripts/contactUs.asp?emailSubject=General+Inquiry&emailBody=
Yes. I've been corresponding with them regarding aftermarket levers, the flashing fuel light patch and the dipstick. Very responsive and informative. Excellent dealership. Not pushing Norton on the back burner to kiss Ducati's ass.

I've ordered from then recently, based on what I'm hearing I will have to keep sending them my money!

The patch kit and the dipstick will be provided free of charge from the Norton Factory except for shipping fees. In all fairness to AF1, this transaction is taking easily over a month because they bundle their deliveries from Norton because of said fees. So, unfortunately, the days of "4 to the door" from the factory are over. AF1 is just the middle man. Its not like they have a whole lot of stock sitting there in Texas. The parts that fit the Aprilia, like after market stuff that also fits the Nortons, they have. They also said they have "extras" coming from the factory so they are trying. Maybe we would have better luck time wise in purchasing from the dealership in Donnington??

Still waiting on Norton to send AF1Racing the Norton Factory Service Manual, its been 2 months since original order. Contacted AF1 this week asking about it and they replied saying Norton still won't provide them a firm date on when they'll ship to AF1 so I still wait. In the meantime however AF1 did send me my other parts that were in the original order with the Service Manual so that I would at least have them. Overall I'm very satisfied with AF1 and their service so far.

Hey guys. I have been in touch with Zero Limits re their Norton carbon fibre products. They were previously a supplier to Norton. What stock they have is that left over from that contract. It is, they say, identical to Norton stock, just a lot cheaper. If,you need a bikini fairing, hugger or number plate holder, this appears to be a really good buy. Unfortunately they don’t stock the chain guard.

Thanks for that info as I purchased both a hugger & flyscreen from Zero Limits, they were shipped from UK 3 days ago. Was wondering just how close the carbon fiber pattern was to Norton's as my front fender & chainguard are Norton carbon fiber. Nice to know now they should all be identical.

I’ll let you know as soon as my hugger and number plate hanger arrive. Zero Limits tell me it’s exactly the same, as this was stock bound for Norton before Zero limits and Norton parted ways.

We’ll see in a couple of days.

Regards.

Steve
