I'm trying to procure one of the short sidestands for my 961 from Norton UK.
I remember someone, I think it was Richard-7, stating that they could be sourced through Norton Canada.
Can anyone recall if this was correct, or what the Norton part#?

I recently ordered and received one from MCC in Chicago. Real quick, good people. I wish I could say the same for the paddock stand that I ordered from the Norton website on May 6th and previously from the dealership in Indianapolis last fall that I've never gotten or heard anything about, but that's another story. Love my 961SF though.

Seems like when we buy a Norton these days, we also learn the true meaning of patience.
I waited almost 12 weeks for a new starter.

Thanks for the part#.

Oh man, too bad my dads starter tool wont be ready for two more weeks. You wouldn't have had to replace your starter, just the solenoids which are readily available everywhere and way less than a new starter plus all the work to remove it as you can replace right on the bike with this custom tool.

More manuals coming to help. I just don't have the time right now as we are leaving for NC rally. However, Norton Canada does sell the short stand. But I'm pretty sure all the North American bikes came with a shorter stand to accommodate the road grade from us driving on the other side of the road. Which is why the stand is than length in UK.

I believe it has to do with the suspension geometry. All the Rad suspensions I have seen seem ok and all the USD the stands are too long!

My dads bike was 3rd bunch of 10 over and his came with two stands because the bike was in the crates and they forgot to put the North American Stands on so each bike of that shipment got a spare shorter stand. My bike came with the already shorter stand. So now if you look at my dads bike he has a left and a right side stand. Pretty handy actually. Both have kill switch sensors too.. :)

My dealer worked with Norton UK to get the new starter unit. It was replaced under warrantee so no cost to me. However, it certainly would have been nice to have the bike to ride for those 12 weeks. Didn't know the solenoids could be replace. My dealer didn't know, and neither did the Norton Internation Service Manager. I did think about having it removed by the dealer so I could take it to a Harley shop. Their starters are similar with a bendix mechanism.

On the plus side, the mechanic checked the ring gear while the primary was open to make sure there was no problem.
