But they could give the consumers a choice for regulat mail. I get it that sometimes sellers get issues with lost/damaged/refusal to pay duty etc from buyers and may have to eat extra costs, but there can be solutions to those problems.

Agreed, Not a simple soloution Any products recieved from AN are always well packaged for their trip over the ditch

Just ordered some parts for my classic mini from a well known supplier in UK. Was expecting the typical courier only shipping options as they usually have, but low and behold there were two parcel post selections. Lowest was about 11 GBP vs 45 GBP for courier.

It seems they have recognized the demand for lower shipping costs and made the change. If only RGM, Andover Norton would do the same.

In a world where I can get all manner of gizmos from China shipped either free or for a couple of bucks, it's baffling how pricey it is from western countries.
My understanding is the country that we are not allowed to criticize has special free intnl. internal shipping fees . Eg. none . That's why they get the world's business ?

To be fair to the vendors, it must be very difficult to create an online system that accurately prices the shipping costs for every single combination of parts bought. I've bought several heavy parts in one order from Andover Norton and the shipping was the same as if I'd only bought a headlamp shell.

Then today I received two lower shock washers in an envelope and the postage was only a pound less.

The only way to be accurate is to weigh and size every parcel before pricing the shipping but then that couldn't possibly work with instant online ordering.

I just assumed that since the shear amount of stuff moving out of China to rest of world made their shipping rate per item extremely low? Afterall, when there are hundreds of freighter's leaving port weekly, what's another pound or two of items for my order?

I just got a price back for one small alloy item for £75.00
from the UK
£60.00 DHL frieght..🤡
Will try another supplier or see if they can use Royal Mail.

At ANIL we have just this week complete a large review of our shipping, we are now offering a larger choice to customers who purchase on our web shop. We now offer a UPS services to all countries along with Royal Mail and DHL. And will continue to review this to insure we can offer the best and most reliable services, as we have found that the cheaper services are not always the most reliable.

The update on our website lets the customer choose the best shipping that best suits your expectations of price and service. But any International items that weigh over 2kgs and with a value over £269.99 will only be shipped via either DHL or UPS.

Shipping Internationally has become a paperwork nightmare with each entry country wanting different data, this includes values of item, quantity, Import commodity codes, customer contact details and the list goes on..... We have invested is a state of the art system that transmits this data to the each customs department to speed up the transit times.

We can also offer customers to arrange there own shipping if they would prefer.

I hope this clears up some grey area around shipping.

Is this what tracking looks like now? No locations, no times....

It's like the whole system went to custard when covid hit , and once people started paying twice as much , why change they make more money .
In the US, it went up about 55% to ship from coast to cost via Air soon after COVID started and the reason was increased fuel cost. Not mentioned was that passenger travel was greatly reduced, many thousands of airliners were parked so there was much less "belly cargo" space available on passenger flights. That all made some sense - what doesn't is why the cost has not come back down.

I don't know the situation today but this was in the heart of COVID:

It's interesting that my last large Burlen (Amal) or was for 10 sets of carbs and a few small things - the carbs were aluminum - I don't know the total weight. The DHL Express shipping cost was 55 GBP. You can imagine how big a box that was. My last AN order was more than twice that for a box that was around 16" x 12" x 8" and weighed just over 6kg - also DHL Express.

So, either Burlen is eating some of the shipping costs for its dealers, or they have a better plan with DHL, or AN is adding handling charges. I can't imagine that Burlen ships anywhere as much as AN so I have a hard time thinking they get better pricing!

I shipped 750 Commando cylinders to Washington State. I normally use USPS Priority mail for it's quickness, low cost, and safety. With discounted 3rd party shipping the total before insurance was $128. Instead I sent it UPS ground which took 6 extra days but cost $58 including $800 insurance. All the UPS ground handling makes me nervous but the price difference is too much to ignore for heavy things. Generally, within the US, UPS is more expensive that USPS for two-day service and there is no free pickup with UPS like there is with USPS.

Just got a avon road rider 100/90 19 from feked.com for $99. Shipping was another $90.

That's nice find.
For those that prefer to go around Amazon, you can buy direct.
No apparent benefit other than not giving to Amazon.
I've bought from Motosport, good outfit.

Cool! I lost track of them and have bought tires form them a few times. Price basically the same as Amazon becuase whe you buy from Amazon they are coming fom Motosport! So, forget Amazon and buy from Motosport so they get all their money!

I think they changed their name or aquired the Motorcycle Superstore. When you search Motorcycle Superstore, you go to Motosport.

After reading here that Andover had now put Royal mail as a cheaper shipping option in their website, I went and replicated the exact same order from a week or so ago.
The cheapest option on that order was parcelforce at 28.33 GBP - now with Andover's cheaper shipping option of Royal mail the cheapest price is now 38.78 GBP for the exact same order.......... 🤔
