^link to first test run-couldnt figure out how to embed video. tiger and bonnie are jealous...

unfortunately, i still have to tinker with the timing with the boyer. Even more unfortunate, is it snowed today. I got her done just in time for winter... :x
She's a high flying lady
She takes me where I want to be
There's no other woman
Standing between her and me
I'll always be faithful
And keep her 'til the end of time
God knows I'll always love
That old Norton of mine

Another one hits the road, err snow. Hope you get a chance to ride her before the weather turns completely.
Triumphs have every right to be jealous.
Fantastic.
your a poet and you don't know it.
AC.

Looks great, the gold even enhances the look of the air filter, keep it like that even if it is not "proper"

Big Congrates on a new birth of Combat cream of the C'do crop. I always want my side covers to state Combat too. You look like a young Clint Eastwood or Steve McQueen on that machine, way cool, now watch out for that right hand reflex.

You do not use a timing light on Boyer Combat, its too sensitive for that crude method that only applies to less than cream of the Crop power plants. Slowly creep up on advance till it back fires some to kick off then retard tiniest bit so if just don't quite back fire on kicking, yet not detonate on the gas and loads you feed it. Then can take a time light to see what the scale says and knife mark stuff to reset close next time and the time after that...

Oh yeah if you don't replace the Boyer trigger leads with upgrade kit or immobilize in gob of RTV then its just a matter of time before you are left on the road or stymied to figure out an intermittent misfire at certain rpm / vibe zones. Copper breaks inside insulation inside non-points cover.

Check brake fluid pretty often first few 100 miles in case its blowing away at speed and goes completely away one good pull down to nothing the next.
Creep up on primary chain tension checked when HOT. Buy anodized slides NOW while Amal bores still in spec, if not may find the boxed pair in better shape a few 1000 miles down the way. Use Auto Trans Fluid in primary for less mess on clutch pack. Same in gearbox which tends to drain out via clutch pack, especially if filled to optimistic misleading plug location or manual volume.

Fantastic Alex! We all know that smile.
You sure that's beer though? Maybe my screen's colour calibration's a bit out.

Great bike Alex, yes we all know the smile when you feel the Nort pull. Keep it going.

I'm not going to comment on the beer, looks suspicious, woops I just did.

We had snow here too, but Wednesday is supposed to be nice, I'm going out!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the tip, it's been giving me a bit of grief trying to time it, seems to be way advanced right now.

this is the first time I've ever gotten to play with a Boyer, it came already on the bike-I know next to nothing about em

I put manual spec grades/volumes in...oops...ah well, it's a learning experience haha

And for the record, I don't like beer, scotch and bourbon on the other hand...

might be a blood relative of the hobo clan. I didn't even know where the points lived when I got a Combat in '99, ugh that luxury didn't last long. After I regrew not to just flop loose my R knee on day 7 event, about 3 wk later I put in the Boyer that came with the purchase and was able to kick it with the knee, so decided to correct me lazy bygoshbygolly timing and put a light on it and advanced to 32' then promply got a back fire at full knee lock to toss me over and down a slope to whiter like a stepped on worm for 10 min, then ease up enough to re-do the down and dirty way from now on. Was pleased I didn't need a new knee either.

Just keep at eye on fluid levels set at factory amounts and keep track of when its not leaking out nearly as much for real level to maintain. Brake fluid top off by the book of course.

Combats come with 19T drive sprocket which is too hi to enjoy in modern city and hi way speeds. That is so easy to fly up to the ton and smooth you'll take every opportunity to get away with it but its wearing on engine to rev into 6000's to do so long. Put a 20T on it and 850 taller ratio 2nd gear and go tease sports bikes up to 80 mph or so. But there is no lube getting to sleeve bushes below 4th gear so yo'll end up with ceramic grit on the shafts and wobble clucth basket real soon.

To get rather better front brake look in manual to see the big rubber boot valve thingy with a tinie tiny pin hole restrictor, punch that completely out with cherry red big nail.

If no PCV valve in breather expect oil mess running over 6000 which is a few hunnder rpm below the torque peak mine deliver so clue to back off or enjoy the joy$ of faster wear.

Be kind to the gals you make swoon with you+Commando combo : )

my tach and speedo both don't work currently, discovered this on the test run. Always a good thing (not really) going to dive into that and hope it's not too much of a mess for me (if it's not just broken cables that is). I've been toying with the idea of regearing it. There's a cb750 and a xr1200 I'm kinda gunning for

Likely can beat the honda750 but the xr1200 will out hp you after 75-80 mph if not sooner and give much trouble to match in handling. 45 cid vs 60 cid makes a difference. It takes a while of just riding around to get the feel of the bikes behavior in different conditions so wait till reflexes built up before pressing mystery limits of a Commando. I've had enough upsets on Combat power turning I'm don't trust em no more to ride with squids. My special Big Block Combat now is meant to snap em up like bait fish. I don't do no neck and neck crap at all ever in public, I either nail bad right away its solo fun from then on or move out the way of the crazies passing into blinds and over crests on mere joy rides, but no sweat to reel em right back in even miles ahead waiting for safe place to pass a car or bike. Combat ain't enough power to keep up when pace is over 120 in the opens.

thanks all, one thing i think it needs are new exhausts. the right header has a mark by the kick start from rubbing and is generally just discolored. the rights the same. I've thought about wrapping or maybe powder coating. Not sure yet though.

Please don't wrap or powdercoat. Pipes aren't that expensive.
