Shaking down an old dog

The chain drops down to the spring which has a hook fitted to each end, one link of the chain above the link which attaches to the spring hook has been pre cut. This is so that there will be a link remaining to hook to should I wish to remove the spring.

I have expended at least ten pounds of effort here and my spring is on. Now I'll remove all the equipment and put the tank back on, it's much easier if you don't have to redesign spring and stand.

On the test today she started leaking from the right hand float bowl as though the float is sticking. I'll remove the bowl tomorrow.

We're off to see the wizard...or at least the Highway Patrol to get the numbers verified.

Thanks,

I hope she still looks like that on the return trip. A couple of my friends have terrible trailer stories and I'm never really comfortable until it is back down.

The bike came home in one piece. It took about an hour for the inspection and it was a good thing I brought lots of tools. It had to be torn down to the bare frame on both sides to get the numbers clearly in view. Now I have 30 days to get it though DMV while they are having staff layoffs.

After repair and painting the Norton looks pretty good. I had my 76 Goldwing LTD done at the same time by a local touch up artist.

The tank is being dried in this picture, he had to do the entire top and mask off and get between one set of stripes to correct that damage.

hi cookie, looking at the trailer pic ,i think the bike could do with moving forward a bit more so there is more weight on the hitch, also i compress the bikes suspension as much as possible because the bike moving up and down can unhook the tiedowns, great looking bike tho

Look carefully, he has the centerstand down. And he's lashed the tiedowns around the frame and triple clamps. Or at least that's what it appears to look like.

Personally I wouldn't want to put that much strain on the centerstand (even with a sprung trailer). But for a short trip it probably wasn't too bad.

hi swoosh, i did,nt notice the center stand, thats a definite no no ,

That's interesting, you guys think the center stand will beat up the frame? I've only hauled a bike on a trailer twice. I always had a truck until recently and I just tied them to the inside body wall. She made the 7.14 mile trip in one piece but it could have been better. In order to put the stand dwon up there I'd have to rig some way to hold it up until I got the straps on it.

Just imagine all 400lbs jumping up and down on the centerstand. Sure, that's a little dramatic but...

The soft loops will protect the bike.

Build or add a front wheel chock. Just a suggestion.

Those look pretty similar to a pair I just bought. Next time I reuse that triler i'll run the mods by you guys. Maybe I've been lucky not to have had to resort to a trailer so far vaery much.

My niece Laura thinks the Norton is pretty cool. We went out to Alice's restaurant, alas on another brand.

We ALL think the Norton is pretty cool. :D

Don't fret about the trailer thing too much. You'll get it sorted out soon enough.

Today I installed what has proven to be one of the most time consuming parts on the bike. The license plate. After another hour at DMV and instructing folks about law in two states I finally have a Norton (not a Triumph) and the numbers are correct. This truly does not need to be such a pain in the butt.
Now I need to repaint the frame where the numbers were cleaned off with paint remover, polish stuff back up (paint remover does not help polished aluminum), and put it back together.
I bought another bunch of Goldwing parts, a spare engine and another bike, but I 'd like to reassemble the Norton tomorrow after work. I have an air show to do the transportation for this weekend so no time then.

The frame damage is now painted as well as some polishing was done for assembly tomorrow.

If my wife hadn't made me go to the store and for a walk along the Bayfront I might have heard the bike run tonight. I finished up the left hand side. Tomorrow I have to put the side plate, pegs, and muffler on the right side. I noticed the brake light is out, most likely from a bad connection or broken wire I'd guess. When you remove the peg assembly that's the chance you take.
I will have to set the carbs again as they got knocked around.
I have to run transportation for the Hiller helicopter Vertical Challenge event Saturday so I'm not sure I'll have much time this weekend.
