Because you're such a worldly lot, I wonder if any of you could help identify a mystery location on some very old footage my grandfather took? My dad converted many hours of his father's footage from the 20s and 30s, and narrated it to varying effect and accuracy. And in his, err, inimitable style. Warning: There are no motorcycles! But throughout the films I have there are some incredible vehicles.

My grandfater travelled all over; this is one of three videos of the adventures. The mystery my late dad wanted to figure out was: What is this port? Where are there hills coming down to a pier like this, etc? I don't think it's in the US, he says Connecticut but I don't think so. If in the US, maybe Maine? I see canoes. Maybe Bermuda?

I have hours of this stuff, much of color video starting from around 1936 when my dad was in diapers (err, nappies). Grandpa was an educated and wealthy fellow who loved his cameras. Here it is at the time of the port. Comments welcome, to me it's quite a cool historical archive. It's at 11:48 in case the video doesn't start at that point (I tried....)

Glad you appreciate it. There's another two, here's the one with more color - the Berkshires in MA, Harvard stadium and Charles river in the flapper age, and Bermuda are well covered.

I think the archaeological site could be Old Sarum, Salisbury.
