A few of the members here are familiar with the parts I produce, I'm located in the Philippines and usually list my parts on
US, UK or Australia Ebay, , Its kinda pointless listing on Ebay Philippines and hope prospective buyers will find my parts
there as Ebay Philippines is a bit of a dud,
For advertising my parts in the US, what what would be good alternatives to Ebay, if I thought I could get enough stock together I would consider my own website, but I cant see that happening in the near future,
I'm all ears.
Don

Forums most closely matched to your product are possibly the best venue to spend a few sponsor dollars.

List your shit on Craigslist in the larger cities, like NY, Chicago and LA etc.. It is free and very popular....

did some research on other auction sites and it seems it would be a waste of time trying them, guess I'll just put up
with Ebays increasing fees and rules for the time being. Own website seems to be the best option.

Only other option I could see would be talking to places like Old Britts, CNW, Commando Specialties, etc to see if they would sell your stuff for you from their web sites. You would of course have to offer a cut.

Hey Don, are you familiar with "Old Bike Australasia" magazine.
They might be a good place to try....
Email.... Advertising sales mananger...joelvandaal@chevron.com.au.
or
classic.bike@ecm.com
or
Classic Racer.
or
I.N.O.C.,news.
Obviously it all costs money (advertising), not sure of your situation, but your
stuff looks good.
Just a thought.
AC.

I think I made a subscription to Old Bike Australasia mag a couple of months ago, waiting for my first issue to arrive
so I can see about advertising there, I think once I looked into advertising in AMCN Trader mag but if I remember
I couldnt do that from outside the country,
I've had quite a few offers from "middlemen" wanting to sell my parts but have declined so far, I figure if I'm the one doing the hard yakka then I should be the one who benefits , not some guy siting in front of a computer, doing bugger all.

Craigslist disallows postings anywhere other than your locale.

Well not for me. I have put ads on Craigslist thousands of miles from my house from coast to coast and they have not deleted them.

That's what I get for following clearly posted rules.

yes maybe if I knew what a proxy server was, I'm computer iliterate , I had a guy guiding me to set up a web site but I had no idea what I was doing, so it never happened , I'll just keep paying ebay/paypal $1000-$1500 per month.
Ebay recently advised me of new fees coming in to effect in a couple of weeks, If i sell an item above $1111, they will charge me a final value fee of $250 , this does not include listing fees , they also advised me that they will be witholding any payments to me from buyers for 3 weeks, also they said they will be charging me 4% if I transfer funds to another currency, also they will be charging me a percentage of the shipping cost, so if i sell an item for $1200 I figure I will end up with about $875. Ebay is trying to get rid of the small sellers and its working.
10 years with ebay and I have 100% + Feedback. I have never come across a business as ruthless as Ebay.

No question about it, e-bay have become very greedy :!:

If you are paying e-bay/paypal $1,000 - $1,500 a month, you are moving some SERIOUS amount of merchandise.

In that case, forum sponsorship on a few active forums would be money well spent, and you should have spent a few dollars on a decent website by now.

I've calculated 8% average "take" from e-bay & paypal on the measley stream of parts I've sold the last few months, so at that rate, you're selling near $20K a month. That is not a "small" seller.

I went through the e-bay "payment retainage for 21 days" deal, they lifted it about a month later. It was due to the fact that my 10 year record on e-bay was not involving small parts sales, so the "selling pattern" raised a flag with them. Once I established a 100% record for about a month, they lifted it.

Face it, e-bay is the top online marketplace, so you MUST play by thier rules.

Damn Madass 140 this is good gouge, I had no idea ebay was like that. I've only ever bought off of it, but I have lots of stuff (not just norton stuff) that I was planning on selling through Ebay. Now craigslist is looking better for me. I know that your location would make craigslist somewhat difficult for you so might be time to bite the bullet and get some computer skills and start that website. I'm 50 this year and not the greatest with them myself but my Pops is 84 and I still get computer help from him---pisses me off, but what ya gonna do. Cj

Ebay is a good advertising platform as well, I have a lot of return customers who purchase again outside ebay, so I escape the fees this way, If I was in the US I would be using Craigslist as well as Ebay and probably in some mags as well.
So, I think a basic website and maybe an ad in some mags, I did try once to advertise in Just Bikes Australia but now that I'm outside Australia they wouldnt accept my ads any more. I dont know if OLDBike Australia will be the same.
battle on.

If you are interested, I would be willing to maintain an ad on the Milwaukee craigslist for you, I always have several going. I am sure there are others around the states that would do the same. I am all for helping fellow Norton owners whenever I can. That way you could have a presence there.

I don't know what the score is for import duties to the US, but us Brits get Royally Shafted for VAT, Duty and processing charges for anything over a few dollars.

I'm in desperate need of alloy rims at the moment, and your prices are worth considering until the duties are factored in - It would take a pair of $200 rims into $300 territory.
Not good :(

If you ever reconsider your position on overseas agents, please let me know ;)
