I purchased an alloy Manx tank with a Commando Base from TA Baker. It's alot longer, so I need a new seat well. Anyone else done this? I saw one at Clubman racing, but I don't care for the red piping on the cover, and it won't work with my stock taillight.

I was wondering if a Manx seat would work. I'd be okay with making some brackets.

I don't have the answer, but i am going with the manx seat without the cut out for the oil tank that i saw at clubman racing. I kind of like the red piping but I do have the thin red pinstripe on my tank so it works for me. will also have to fabricate some brackets.

i am using a stock Interstate tank and the shorter of the two manx seats....I think I will come up short and be able to use the stock tail light.

The guy from clubman told me that his seat is designed to cover the frame loop in back, which would foul the upper part of the taillight bracket. I'm very interested to know how you make out.

Cappy,
I took some measurements for the Manx Racing seat idea....he is what I came up with.....either seat length will work......when using an Interstate or Roadster tank. the stock seat is longer in either case so there is no way the Clubman Manx Racing seat will cover the frame loop using the above tanks. the Norvil tank might be another story. my concern is covering the mud guard/fender hump with the humped part of the seat. I would physically have to see both seats on the bike to tell which works/looks best.
Good Luck,

Hi Captain-
Didn't the Production Racer have a shortened taillight housing? This might be the ticket for your application. Working with a memory that's not what it was. Hope it helps.

Hi Captain-
Yep, looked in the book last night and sure enough, the Production Racer has a tail light fairing that's cut off at the frame loop to accomodate the seat tail. This seems like an elegant solution for the cafe seat. Might fish around for someone who has a severely cracked/broken one, I don't think this was uncommon and might be had reasonably. I surely wouldn't cut up a good one! If of course you go this route and feel waves of gratitude you could send me your good fairing, the R could surely use it!
