I have seen the stencils but what is the best way to apply (paint?) what is the proper material and procedure to re-stencil the seat so that it looks professional and correct?
Color? Mine is so faded its hard to tell.

This thread is a good one on this topic: norton-seat-logo-t12917.html.

I found my original '72 seat cover and can't really tell what color it was anymore. I think it was gold when new but as they age they seem to turn more silvery.

Not sure about the 72, but the 69-70 were gold. Jeandr has pictures of his 69 S from the rear and it was definitely gold.

my 72 interstate was originally gold. bought a new one from andover and it is also gold.

Not sure I can shed any light on the gold or silver question but I've done several on other bikes and used Testor's gold enamel in the spay can. Burnish the stencil edges down good with a rounded dowel. Also, put a light first coat on and let it dry to seal the edges and help stop bleed under. Then build up the coats.
