Olivia put in a requisition for a new seat base/foam for me and a couple of days later it's here.... now I need some ideas for a cover material/design.

Nothing wrong with original seat, I just need to change the contour a fair bit to suit my rather demanding posterior :)

Seat cover ideas needed

You are as bad as fast edwardo with your tinkering. Is it memory foam or something, did you end up with metal plates in your backside to warrant more comfort. A dominator seat would be a big problem for you I'm guessing?

I will tinker for as long as there is a spare hour in the day :)

The seat foam you see is standard, I haven't played with it yet, I will leave that to the upholsterer, but likely carry the width at tank further along the airbox before it broadens out and maybe get them to layer the foam for more comfort or put in a gel pad - comfort isn't the issue, just the shape. You are 'warm' with the 'metal plates', just legacy from a crash on my 750 Commando some 40 years ago!

What I need are some ideas for the cover, I'm torn between traditional/conservative or something really OTT like black'n'red chequered

If anybody is interested in a aussie sheepskin cover. Various colors. I have black looks great and very comfortable. goodwool.com.au he has a template for the single seat and pad. You can order on line and fairly cheap.

And I thought it was just a KIwi thing :)

Well, white like in the pic looks great;)
When I put the foam on the bike I thought "white doesn't look bad" but I didn't want to be a girlie suggesting it lol. Not sure how 'practical' white would be though, would show up all the marks, especially after emergency braking! :)

White does look interesting....maybe for John Travolta in Saturday night fever. Or Penelope Pitstop Pink would look good too. I'm partial to suede, in your case either black or a buckskin color. Yes, the white would look girlie.

I’m with curtis on the black nubuck material / white does look great but impractical & would be long b4 your recovering it again

Ha! Yes - well you got us there. We do unseemly things to sheep, and then export them to Australia for consumption ;)
Kiwi961 ,we had to move to Australia because the Merinos in Central Otago were a bit rough.
Plus the winters are a bit kinder for riding over here

I got gel pads fitted into mine as the bike I tried at the factory would have devalued the family jewels. Over 1k and no comfort issues at all.

I took my spare seat to the upholsterers today, complete with it's bath sponge and cardboard mockup of what shape I thought it might take.... needless to say he had a good laugh and told me not to give up my day job! He did have several ideas of his own and seemed quite keen to tackle the job, he even put 'carbon fibre', 'Union Jack' and 'Leather' together in a single sentance, sounds promising.

Alas he didn't mention snakeskin at all which was a relief :)

Carbon fibre, leather and Union Jack eh?

I guess we’ll forgive the lack of snake skin, you’ve got your boots after all right?!

I've been wanting to do my seat in black suede but procrastinate too much. I've never had issue with the comfort of the original seat. I must have a hard ass.

I took the bike on a 35 mile bimble to the seat upholsterer so he could tailor the modified foam to match the shape of the seat hump.... looking good so far! He said he hopes to have it done this week, getting excited :)
