Seager Engineering in the U.K. seem to do some good stuff, inc Commando exhaust thread inserts along with their own rose nuts. Plus laser welding (of cracked heads etc) that was discussed on here recently. And much more nice looking stuff.

Has anyone got first hand experience of their services?

Off topic already but I see that their claimed reputation for quality engineering is not matched by their website builders quality of proof reading.
"Seager engineering was established in July 1987 and quickly gained a reputaion for quality engine component restoration."

Yes they bored out and installed new exhaust inserts in my 850, absolutely beautiful job, just torqued them up after 200 miles and never moved since. After a couple of years I am removing the head and they just undid without any drama.

I bought a pair of rose nuts for my 850 mk3 Commando 2 years ago. Great product beautifully made and fitted with no wobble of the threads . The rose nut spanner is also a dream to use. I would certainly use and buy from them again.

They inserted inserts (!) in an 850 head for me about 15 years ago. If I remember correctly they bore the port then cut a new
thread into the oversize exhaust port. Into this they screw a blank insert, then cut a new thread in-situ in the insert that exactly
matches the new thread they cut in the head such that the peaks and hollows match. They said this keeps a maximum thickness
all along the thread of the insert. It was 15 or more years ago, but I think that's what was said. I've just been in my garage and
cannot find the head so it may be on my working Commando. No problems with that head.

I used standard rose nuts, but they wanted them such that the new thread they cut exactly matched the rose nuts I had purchased.
This is the case as each rose nut fits the it's prescribed port and is less good when swapped.

Hi Nige

Been using Peter for 15 to 20 years.
They stripped my Daytona engine. It had been shot blasted with steel balls & then run. Ruined a lot of parts. Pete reground the crank stripped & hotwashed all the parts, trued a conrod. New guides, shells, valves. He made me Commando threaded exhaust stubbs so thaf I could run pushover pipes. He's done Norton cranks for me. All with a natter & at a reasonable price. Sorted out problems for me several times. Old fashioned engineering that has moved with the times.

They did a really good job on my big bore BSA b25
Crank reground con rod re sized and shot peened

Baz,
What size is your big bore B25, has the work been worthwhile ?
You can answer in the BSA section if you want. thanks

This translates to They do it with thread milling on a CNC mill and know what there doing.

Old fashioned engineering that has moved with the times.

I'm anxious to know how they prepare cracked heads for welding. New fangled engineering for old fashioned problems. With what all they do you can't doubt they fix it right. But how much do they open up to fill in?

Hi Edgefinder

Must admit I have only ever had one cracked head welded & I took that to Exactweld. Ex gp race team with outstanding welding talent.
I am sure Peter has someone but every head would have to be individually accessed.
Send him some photos.

Hi in fact you already posted some Info in the BSA section under the thread started by Matchless „a bigger Starfire engine“ last year. Very interesting.
