Rubber mounts for head steady

Is the rubber mount made up of two bolts somehow moulded into the rubber or is it one bolt all the way through? I am worried that if I squeeze the nuts on here it will pull the rubber apart:

The little plates with studs are bonded either side of the rubber. It it were straight thru it would be pointless. I use split washers on these rather than Loctite since it can be hard to break them free without destroying them otherwise.
 
Single cotton reels, get some polygrips to hold the bonded plate, or if the rubber breaks off use them to undo it.
 
The reels seem to be wider than fits in here. Is there a fixed size for these things? I did buy them as head-steady / exhaust mounts.
 
There are wrongly dimensioned ones knocking about, even ones with M8 threads. I did post some measurements comparing some originals with new but can't find it.
 
Those look like a type of vibration damper mounts I've seen at a local Princess Auto (aka Canadian Harbor Freight)....they are not the same as originals...rubber is harder and concave shaped. I've put a pair on my left side silencer mounts and they seem to be holding up OK...unsure if they would work for the headsteady...thread may not be correct.
 
Use genuine AN Norton parts. They are not waisted like these, and the rubber is of a different density.

They can be found in the correct 5/16" UNF thread, but most are M8! Hard to tell at a glance, but yours look worrying like M8!

OK for the 'average' exhaust mount, but not on a Norton Commando head steady and not much use for Commando exhausts either!.

Another thing to note is you have the early type head steady that are well known to break even though yours looks like it's been welded
You'd do better changing to the later box type at least
But there are plenty of aftermarket head steadies available including the Dave Taylor type or norvil etc all are better than the early type

The AN and RGM are correct. Wassell sells ones like in the OP picture. Many Wassel things are quality - these are not - the washers can easily rip off the rubber. They must be 5/16" UNF to screw into the frame or tank rear. The ones Wassell sells at least have the correct threads.

Even the right ones make you think they won't work but will. Those really don't look like they will!

The thread is correct and they screw into the frame just fine. And, yes it does show sign of having been welded.
They do look too flimsy. Will check the alternatives mentioned above. Plenty time before the engine will be vibrating :)
