Hi All and have a good year.
Why the P11 rotor nut (06.7893/NM24947) has a shorter sleeve and a smaller spanner size compared with Atlas/Commando one.
The thread is the same.
Thank you.

Piero,
Happy New Year to you also.
I think the reason is that the P11 has a single row chain for the primary which is narrower, as compared to the commando using a triplex chain sprocket with spacers and shims and the longer sleeve on the rotor nut acts as an extension for supporting the rotor for the commando. I haven't measured the distance between the outboard face of the rotor and the seal face for the engine to primary inner case between the two bike types but I bet the commando's rotor is sticking further out. Why they changed the nut size to a smaller wrench size is a mystery for me as well. 1" across the flats for the P11 nut size and 1/2" whitworth on the commando. They are atlas engines but amc primary drive system on the P11.
Cheers,
Thomas

The Atlas and Commando rotor nuts are not the same.

The Commando nut is as described by Thomas to accommodate the wide triplex chain. The rotor is pushed outboard about 3/8 inch (9 mm) because of the wide chain, and the nut acts as a sleeve (per Thomas explanation). The Commando rotor is also different than the Atlas... the rotor bore is larger to accept the sleeve of the rotor nut.

I am not familiar with the P11 rotor and rotor nut. The Atlas rotor nut is like most nuts .... plain.

Ciao
