I am new to the forum and I'm looking for a winter project. I've ridden all my life and I've restored a couple of cars but never a bike.

I'm looking at a 850 commando without the engine. Its $1525 and is complete including the gearbox.

Any suggestions if I should wait for a complete bike, or pick this up and get started?

Thoughts?

I got one for $1,200 about 11 years ago with the engine and everything but it was really thrashed in the tank, side cover and seat areas. Everything had to be rebuilt. I had to get new fork stanchions, fenders, seat, tank, side covers, battery tray, handle bars, switches etc. So, if the one you are looking at has good parts, a title, and is just missing the engine then I would say it looks like a good price. Just the transmission being intact is worth about 500.

You might come across a better deal some day, and if you do then you should buy that one too!!

Thats pretty good advice. I have a feeling this won't be my only project bike.

Thanks for the rely.

If you don't buy that one, you'll not see one for sale for at least 12 months.

Its called 'Sods Law' !

Its a good price IMHO and if its what you need I'd snap it up.
