Rocket 3 coils

Dear All,
I have 3 coils from Bsa Rocket 3 but i cannot read if they are 6 or 12 volt.
They look like less long than Lucas Commando coils.
The question is, are the rocket 3 coils 6 or 12 volt?
Can i use for Commando nd vice versa?

Some were fitted with 3 4V coils in series to give 12V in total with a Rita and it works with Boyer too. Same as 2 6V coils in series on a Commando.

Standard Rocket 3 coils should be 12V.

You could measure "Ohms" between the (+) and (-) terminals of each coil.

The Ohms reading should give an indication of the coil "Voltage".

So i cannot use 3x6V because they are 6V in series and 18V in parallel???
May be i have a confusion.

You can but its not as good as 3 4V coils, 6V coils are 1.9 ohms so 3 in series give you 5.7 Ohms in total which is more than the preferred 3.8 ohms but not so high it does not work just not as well and with less reliability as any marginal electrical joints will give lost sparks.
 
Coils can't be wired in parallel, they will not produce enough voltage to fire the plugs, in series, they will work. While 3 6 volt coils in series are not ideal, they will work.

IF YOU WANT IT TO RUN PROPERLY , get three 10.000 Volt Coils that will throw a 2 inch spark , and hook it up to the National Grid . :mrgreen: :wink:

theres a link elsewhere to the correct BENDIX C.B. points , the nylon ones might be called dangerous . Ign. Advances as the heel evaporates .
Was a remote / quill drive to a bearing supported C.B. cam assy .

Theres a Fancy Triple Forum somewhere .
Ive seen a T1150 snot a GS1000S , Final at sundown at Meremere Dragstrip . 5.000 years ago . :? Bolt Upright rider on triple . Racer X on spewsooki .
ANYWAY , meticulous preperation necesary with those things. And ray gun ' silencers ' or Works 3-1 . :D

IF you USE the NYLON ONES :shock: Clean the cam maticulously & polish , lightly grease then remove near all with good tissue .
A toothpich to apply grease to contact heel , when clear .
Run then clean. BUT , there should be just a wave , a 1/2 mm in dia of grease , before heel on cam .

you can run the points in like this . IF they get dry the plastic MELTS , the gap closes , the IGNITION ADVANCES , and pop , whizz , a piston melts .
most will run Elec. Ign. maybe a Pazon has the right advance curve .

And as for those coils , thow in a Ignition Loom . NEW . Mains Power . If the coils wont spark HALF AN INCH . Throw them at someone whos really annoying .
