Hey.......... tell me this........ will the rockers, etc. from a RH4 work in a RH10. I'm thinking of buying an empty RH10 and would put my RH4 parts in it. Thanks.

All parts are identical, rockers, shafts and shims, thrust washers (Thackery washers) etc. Just make sure the rocker shaft flats face away from the rocker feed holes. Easy to get them 180 deg out. Will need to heat head to 150C in oven and extract shafts with small slide hammer. You probably know all that anyway just use the manual for reference.

"Easy to get them 180 deg out. "

And if you do, the rocker boxes will fill with oil faster than it can drain. The seals are not designed to be submerged in oil and they WILL pass excessive oil into the combustion chamber. The spindles on my Commando head were backwards when I bought it from a well known Brittbike outfit who had bragged on what good shape the bike was in following their "complete" inspection/check/tuneup so don't make any assumptions... ;)

Just to beat the dead horse, spindle flats face out from the center as in intake towards the carbies and exhaust towards the pipes.

Well - to beat it a little more...

The spindle retaining caps have little nubs or tangs that are supposed to prevent the spindle from turning. But the tangs can be bent toward the cap (away from the spindle ) sufficiently so that they won't engage the spindle. If that happens, the spindles can turn. One of my spindles was oriented so the flat, which, as noted, should be facing outward, was actually pointed down. Basically I had one rocker/valve tip that was not getting sufficient oil but since the other one had the flat facing the wrong way, there was enough oil in the box to submerge the valve seals and plenty of "splash" up to the rocker. ;)

As Forrest Gump pointed out, "Buying a Norton is like box of chocolates; you never know what you are going to get!"
