Roadholder Stanchion length

I fitted a TLS to my 7 inch wide Atlas. I think it was a Dunstall...bolted right up.

Hi guys. When the front forks on an atlas are fully extended, is there usually some space between the top of the chrome oil deal holder and the black piece/cover that slides over it. This is what mine looks like with the forks fully extended. When I put the weight of the bike back on them, the chrome section is reduced by half. I'm think the previous owner put the wrong length tubes in and the springs are knackered.

Most folks have the opposite problem - a gap there when its up on the centrestand.
You can insert shims, packing pieces or washers to increase the spring pressure and ride height.
A bodge, but widely used.

Did you measure the lengths of anything before assembling ?
Saves dismantling to figure out what is needed.

Thanks Rohan, I didn't assemble them sobim completely guessing. I am hoping to put commando sliders in it and disc brake setup. I will probably end up getting new tubes depending on how these look anyway.

1. No question about it Early atlas had 7" triple trees.
2 You probably have modified TLS components to make them fit in a set of 7" yokes. I had to put a set of 7-3/8 to allow commando TLS in my 63 atlas front hub.

3. First.... you should use featherbed damper bodies so the frame ride is correct.
Then you should fit featherbed fork stanchions in a featherbed...so the lower bush ride in the correct range in the fork leg. Simply put.... the damper body is what controls the lower length/ride height to suit the featherbed. The longer commando damper bodies will make it ride like a mini chopper. It will ride at the same height with either the 21" OR 23" fork stanchions, except the lower fork staunchion bush rides at a different level within the leg.
