Today's Daily Telegraph newspaper has published a road test report on the new Dominator SS. It's on line at "www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring".

You're right, Slick. Motorcycle prices are much higher than they used to be. They're no longer a cheap alternative to a car. If I'd been a bit wealthier at the time I left N-V (May 1968), I'd have brought a new Commando with me. Boeing would have shipped it along with our household goods. The employee discounted price was less than £500, I think. At $2.40 to the £, a brand new Commando for $1200 would have been a spectacular deal.

If I'd had one over here, I'd probably have needed a wooden overcoat quite early! I found that the visual cue of sitting on the LH side of a car helped greatly with the conversion to US driving, but a bike didn't provide that cue.

I bought my Atlas brand new in 1963 ...... $1050. It was a cheap alternative to a car and my principal transport to college.
I bought a wrecked out Commando in 1972(?) ..... $125. It was intended for spares.
I sold the timing cover from same Commando in 2014 .....$140

Yes indeed, they are no longer a cheap alternative to a car.

Slick
