You're right, Slick. Motorcycle prices are much higher than they used to be. They're no longer a cheap alternative to a car. If I'd been a bit wealthier at the time I left N-V (May 1968), I'd have brought a new Commando with me. Boeing would have shipped it along with our household goods. The employee discounted price was less than £500, I think. At $2.40 to the £, a brand new Commando for $1200 would have been a spectacular deal.
If I'd had one over here, I'd probably have needed a wooden overcoat quite early! I found that the visual cue of sitting on the LH side of a car helped greatly with the conversion to US driving, but a bike didn't provide that cue.
