Here's what my right hand switch looks like...

Right Hand Switch Wiring Question.

The toggle goes up for left turn, down for right turn.

The top red button is the unused starter, and the bottom black is the kill switch (it doesn't work on mine - not sure why, but I don't think I particularly need it as I know I'd leave my ignition key on ).

Inside looks like this...

Right Hand Switch Wiring Question.

RW is for the unused starter.
GW is the R/H indicator.
GR is the L/H indicator.
W is the switched live.
LGN is to the flasher unit.
YW is the kill switch to the ballast resistor (removed - now to Pazon Surefire IE module).

Hopefully got that right?

When I come to fit my Alton starter, the lower black button would be my preferred choice (as it is in a more natural/modern position to me), and the top one, which if working, would be the kill as red seems more logical for 'off'.

So, rather than reaching for the soldering iron, instead of connecting the black Alton extension wire to the usual RW from the switch, could I connect it to the bottom black, which I assume is the YW, and if so, where would the Pazon connect to?

Hope that makes sense

I would think not as the kill switch opens the circuit.
You need to check function of switch with continuity.

Somebody has switched the buttons over as the kill button would normally be the red one.

RW is actually WR.

The kill switch in not really for the rider's use. It is more about giving a bystander after an accident an obvious way to shut down the engine. So all modern bikes have a red switch for this reason.

I moved my right hand switch assembly to the left handlebar end b/c turn signal operation is so much easier with the clutch hand...tough to mamage throttle, brake and toggling an indicator switch with one hand IMHO.
So left clutster is red kill at top, indicators, horn button lower...which is similar to many modern rides. Right is no function/starter top, high beam toggle, and flash to pass lower.

Nope. That is inaccurate.
In the event of a stuck throttle, easy to thumb it off.

Interesting.

I have swapped the red & black over. I can live with the starter button being on top.

Thanks for your input folks 👍

If you mean you want to use the White/Yellow for the starter, you can't: White/Yellow has 12 volts unless the button is pushed. White/Red has 12 volts only when the button is pushed. The red and black buttons are identical except the color so they can easily be switched.

Yep, cheers Greg.

As above, have now swapped the buttons so red is now at the bottom 👍
