Right hand controls advice?

I'm working on a 73 Commando 850. Among the many issues is an incomplete right hand control assembly. The master cylinder and Lockheed caliper need complete rebuild as well.

I want to fix correctly, but cost is an issue. Just trying to get it road worthy (for now).

Any advice on the R hand controls? The OEM parts seem impossible to source.

Take it all apart then clean and inspect. Then decide if the MC bore is good or corroded. If not pitted there is the option of sleeving down to smaller 13 mm bore size . The switch gear contacts will need cleaning up and fresh grease to the moving bits. Use your reading glasses or a magnifying glass.
 
I'm a penny pinching 850 owner....I completely re-built my 850 MC/Caliper with spare parts sourced mainly in Canada & US. Also got the DIY re-sleeve kit from forum member Madass140 (his website: http://www.tritonmotorcycleparts.com/). Working really well on original brake rotor. When you say incomplete RH controls, are you talking the switch gear/switch lever or housings? I've repleaced the broken plastic levers with spares from Eurojambalya ( https://www.eurojamb.com/).
 
If your switches are in need of more than just a cleaning, rebuild kits are available from Lucas (Wassell) parts dealers or Eurotrash Jambalya (https://www.eurojamb.com/). Also, complete new units are available from Andover Norton. Usually the right hand switch corrodes from leaking master cylinder. It often can be repaired by carefully cleaning the copper/brass contacts. Just for info, the 1973 and 1974 models used the long blade switches, while 1971-72 use the short blades. Unfortunately, the long blades often break and are replaced with the short ones.

Master cylinder rebuild kits are available, but often the bore is pitted. Exchange service for a rebuilt, sleeved cylinder will give a better brake and eliminates the pitting. Jim Noll (British Bike Connection) and others offer these. Caliper rebuilds are not too difficult and stainless steel pistons are a good idea. The hardest part is removing the caliper plug. A pin wrench can be made from a length of strap steel and two hardened pins.

The right hand switch cluster is available new but made by Sparx, not Lucas. The circuitboard is the same however and can be swapped into the Lucas housing. As noted above, new switch levers and buttons are available from eurojamb. The switch isn't cheap however, I think I paid over $100 US for it.

Nice to have a functional kill switch again though.

Thanks to all. I should have been clearer - the right-hand switch gear/cluster is completely missing from the bike. The circuit board is present, but the switches were lost in transit to my home here in Atlanta.

A new switch seems ideal to swap - will track down a sparx unit.
 
Worth mentioning the orientation of the right switch layout may have changed as Norton swapped it around in '74 and some simply did so earlier in response to the indicator lever preference.

So just note what's going on with the left side and work from that. Recommend the Eurojamb I have a full set for the switches I am currently restoring. Also, Craig is the business and for a t-shirt absolutely indispensable!
 
I paid through the nose to get a used original lucas LH switch assembly, just to get a correct, color-coded, 5-wire cable harness for my norton. I had my original switch assembly and housing, but the previous owner destroyed the cable making it useless. what I got off fleabay supposedly came from a 71 triumph Bonneville. LSS, stripped the harness out of the assembly, transplanted it into my 74 Mk2, and re-sold the remaining parts back on fleabay. parts went to someone in Puerto Rico. sometimes you just need to get creative.
