Return of the Bride of the Son of tire/rim size?

Folks,
Far and away the best handling motorcycle I've ever ridden was my 1973 850 with 4.10/19 Avon's front and rear, I've just never believed in the "wider rear tire" thing (I don't think it works on a light, narrow Brit-bike), so for the new Commando I'm thinking about Avon AM26's in 100/90-19 front and rear on WM3's but I think that WM4's would be better.

So here is the $64,000.00 question:

Will the 100/90-19, WM4 combo clear on the front?

I don't see why it would be a problem. I have the same size on wm3 on front. wm4 is a wider rim, but the widest point of the tire should be the same or very close as a wm3

How much clearance do you have?, going from a WM3 to a WM4 will make the tire sit (it's a VERY minor difference) "wider but not as tall" (more contact patch sounds good to me).

I've got about .35" each side. Would a wm4 make the tire half an inch wider?

Thanks for the measurement, I don't think the WM4 would make a .5" difference.

To wide measure your rim they are actually wm2 = 1.85"

If you don't believe in the wider rear tire thing why are you thinking of putting rims on that are 2 sizes bigger than standard :?

Contact patch is a good thing, it's the "rear tire wider than the front tire" thing that I don't buy into.

I think that having 2 different-sized tires upsets the handling on a Commando, just like "hanging off" does. On a wider, heavier bike I see the benefits but on a Commando? not so much.
