How many times do you retorque the cylinder head bolts and nuts when installing a new head gasket ?

The answer is keep checking using a torque wrench until you don't need to tighten them any longer. My experience is up to half a dozen times. Most important is early on. Get the engine hot then re-check. Also depends on head gasket material. Solid copper smashes more than the composite (flame ring) type gaskets.

I've found 3 or 4 times stone cold with fire ring gasket, but be sure you put some RTV on the bottom of the front two top nuts or oil will migrate up the threads from the pushrod tunnels! My Norton has no leaks! Call Rippley's believe it or not! :D
