Rescuing my WD WW2 Norton 16H

Thanks Paul :) Just sat in the garden making a few bits from different sources fit haha! 75 years of differing wear.

Working on the bar assembly today levers etc. One of the bolt sizes is in between 1ba so managed to source some nos ones just cutting them to length

Success everyone :) got the lever screws sorted thanks to Nick for some advice on them ended up with 2ba x 3/4inch which fit pretty much perfectly just had to trim the length down a bit an go in an out a handful of times by hand.

Next thing to sort is a throttle slide for the carb an to try clean the inside of the carb body up.

Plan now is just to get her running so i can start to use her, then look at all the bits an peices like the racks vokes etc.

Sorry mate been a mad few months with all this covid stuff + next door are having constant building work angle grinders going all day every day so been huge dust an grit clouds flying around so not been able to work on any of the bikes, pretty much ruined my summer plans.

So been helping my dad out with some work in the house actually ran low on fund's as I'm outta work currently as many are so just in the process of selling some of my Japanese classic's to fund finishing the WD bike so I can use her an getting my Commando back on the road fancying a tr6c at some point to in the next few years, once the 16h an Commando are running which hopefully wont be to long. The British bikes are life long keepers till the day I die so don't mind loosing a few Japanese ones to put some more money into them.

Just been getting out on the 650ss when I've been able to in the dark in the evenings so not been bothering with the gopro.

Hit an issue with the carb needing some money on it then after that I need to make a wiring loom an get a reg/rec wont be to far away from actually getting her running which is really exciting few little more bits to get for my fuel taps although I'm tempted to keep the original ones that I sourced in a box.

Hopefully I'll have a bit of an update on her over the next few weeks managed to source an original mag plate an I've gotta fix the oil lines so least that's something to do on her once I get a day with no darn building dust flying around :)

Good to hear from you.... A lot of folks are suffering on this side economically also so keep your spirits up because it can't last forever..... Been too hot here to accomplish anything.
We all want to see/hear that old gal of yours pop and percolate, but I figure we can wait. Keep the faith.

Thanks guys yeah it's like the worlds been flipped upside down, next time next door aren't doing work I'll try film a mini update or get out on the 650ss :) just advertised some leathers and gonna stick some RD spares on that I don't need so hopefully that'l free up some to make a bit of progress.

Wasn't aware the yokes were different mate ? Shes got all the lug holes on the frame as she should have to take one :)

Lil bit of progress :) fitted the mag plate that one of the forum members helped me out with over the moon with how it looks. Gonnna do the positioning properly soon as I can get the bike out again. Had a mini melt down thinking it had accidentally been thrown out while we were tidying up the other day oopps! After a hour of looking through storage boxes remembered I'd put it in my bedside table do I didn't loose it lol.

Hopefully should be back on with making a bit of progress once some leathers an a few spares for my rd's sell been considering selling the majority of my Japanese classics an some nos rd250c spares to my gsx750et an rd250lc nos rebuild to fund finishing the 16h an commando rebuild. Become utterly even more obsessed with british bikes if that was even more possible haha! Pretty much straight swapped my rd250c a few weeks back for a modern t100 bonnie 'sixty edition' thats been an interesting experience.

If I end up letting the Japanese bikes go quite fancying an american spec Tr6c :) to go along with the Nortons an modern Triumph.

Been a total nightmare with next doors building work to so still can't get her out to work on. Suns shining though an still here so can't compain.

Lil bit of progress today :)

Decided to refit the rear mudguard supports that I've got for now to save a lil bit of funds towards getting her running. It's an earlier setup that's missing the top rack. Hoping in the future to get the late type carrier and a set of pannier frames with the correct pillon seat when funds are a bit better. As they say Rome wasn't built in a day. Got it nice n central as well onceII sorted one of the stays.

Gonna fit the new chain tomorrow, canvas grips, n repair the oil lines for the oil tank while retaining the brass fitments hopefully, also wanna swish the oil tank out as well ready for fitting. Wanna try get a 44' oil tank as well at some point.

Need to paint the mcr1 box as well an the rear brake arm forgot about those.

Next things to order is some wiring to make a loom.

Something relatively affordable that I can be getting on with need to get a new timing guage as well so if anyone's got any recommendations for good ones brand wise lemme know :)

Next step is to get a carb or send this one I've got to be fixed gonna work out the cost of both options.

Gonna service my original fuel taps tomorrow as well n get those fitted onto the bike.

Apart from those bits remaining on the list of stuff to get as funds allow.

Skid plate
1944 ribbed oil tank
Rear late type carrier
Rear pannier frames
Rear pannier bags
Fluted glass for the blackout
Rear seat
Field stand
Rear brake arm for pannier setup
Vokes

She will soon hopefully be ready to rock which will be exciting really cant wait for the first start up n ride once we are allowed out again.

Been doing some work again today on the Restoration. Todays job was some work on the original Amal carb to see what components were missing in it. After freeing a damaged throttle slide I spent a few hours cleaning the body and checking for wear it seems in remarkably good condition but utterly filthy inside

Unfortunately some parts are missing from the Carb so a decision will have to be made between the cost of the individual replacement components vs a new complete Carb an she's going to be ridden so part of me is favouring fitting a new Carb.

Unfortunately some parts are missing from the Carb so a decision will have to be made between the cost of the individual replacement components vs a new complete Carb. Just totting it up ok the Amal website. Has anyone used any of the new Amal 276 carbs? Looks like I'll need a slide, air slide springs, gaskets etc an a float + float needle. Comes to about £150 in parts.
An who are we all using for wiring supplies in the UK for loom wiring whats the right gauge for 6v systems and connectors an the colour rings that's hopefully the next job for the start of this new lockdown.

My 276 works fairly well, but the float chamber leaked. Didn't manage to get it working properly with the usual tricks including new float needle, so replaced it with a new one. At that time Burlen did not have any 1BE, so I fitted a long arm 1DV as fitted to Vincent Comets.

Progress update video spent some time working on the WW2 Norton RAF 16H fitted the canvas grips hope we are all keeping well. Lest we forget

Edited on my phone with gopro quick.

Got the sump guard trial fitted today :) gonna have to get some longer bolts when I next get some stuff. Shes coming along though. Did a few pics for remembrance sunday while I had her out.

Looking better each time. Keep going and the Queen shall have it placed in the Tower.

Thanks mate :)

Chain on fitted the chain guard to.

Gonna order some wiring supplies from somewhere tomorrow, excited to start learning how to do that. Working in crazily cramped conditions unless I can get her outside.

Need to get some longer bolts for the rear stays to lower mudguard to.

Once I've got the wiring done the next step is a new Carb, an hunt for a 44' oil tank. Then after that rear carrier an racks, then a few other detail bits as an when funds allow including a vokes :)

Need to repair the oil lines tomorrow as well.
