Rescuing my WD WW2 Norton 16H

indeed mate I keep having to remind dad of that I'm really happy with how the brush painting came out on the numbers got one of the full stops to fix on the other side where it ran.

Super happy with how her original Raf wartime number came out :) brush painted with a stencil. Next step is roundels thinking of just the one on the front mudguard seen a substantial amount of raf Nortons with the roundel on the front guard both solos and sidecar combinations like mine. + the erm and no Norton logo.

1 picture with the erm norton logo an the roundel on the tank.

An a few with just the roundel an a few with just the erm.

Amazed by your attention to details. I think you've mentioned that you intend to use it regularly.
In that case, I suggest you shall add a fuse to the electrical system. Not original, but can save some hard to get parts when (not if, it's Lucas) something fails. Also consider replacing the interior of the voltage regulator with a modern electronic one. If you have the original MCR1, put it aside as a piece of history and get a MCR2 to house the modern electronic one in. Only a real expert will notice the slight difference. The electromechanical original should only be trusted if you know a very experienced person in adjusting them. Had one where contacts welded together, killing the generator. It was a long 60W one, so not a big loss. Still searching for the correct short 45W generator. If you intend to ride at night, it could be a bright idea (pun intended) to use LED lamps.

Thanks mate that's a really good point! Yep I've got an original mcr1 that looks screwed so was gonna fit a modern one inside the housing like you say.

Just another correction lads I was referring to her original raf wartime number as an erm that was wrong :) should just be referred to as the original raf wartime number thanks to Dave for passing some research onto me was getting my terms mixed up.

Double check the wiring when finished the electrics. Then check it once again before starting the engine. It's too damned easy to make a mistake. Especially as contrary to your 650SS, the WD16H has negative earth.

Totally rewired a WD B40 a couple of weeks ago, big surprise, got it almost right. Only fault was I got high and dipped beam mixed up.

Finished the Raf roundels today super humbling seeing them + her original wartime Raf number.
They have really dried back since these pictures an are a superb deep dull matt!
I'll get the camera out tomorrow an take some propper pics.

Thanks again to everyone who's been giving me advice :)

Got into the engine tonight an shes had a new oil pump at some point an it all looked pretty good bar one bit of damage to the timing cover that I've gotta look at fixing.

Tomorrows job is to paint the rear stand an my headlight if it turns up although that might take a few days an start working out what screws an bolts I need to order that I'm short on.

Grab a brush and some olive paint and touch up the frame and fork from underneath with bad coverage of the red primer. Very visible in the last picture.

Nice to see you’ve touched up the dodgy ‘spot’ on the tank !

You gonna have it running for the VE celebrations ?

Hi Rivera yep that'l be getting sorted when I service the steering damper an it's out of the way will have to spray it to match it correct. It didn't help it was hit with studio flash on my Hasselblad lol not as visible in Normal Daylight.

I was hoping to Eddie that was my plan but some house things are needing to be done now as a priority funds wise an I've hit an issue with the carb got to make a decision on whether to rebuild it needs a new slide and the body is in poor condition or get a modern one from amal I'm gonna have a go at cleaning it just been doing some work on my dads gsx-r 750 and my fireblade today as I had the stuff in to do those.

Yeah it just flicked off on the tank which was good :)
