Replacing isolastics/first time

Since, as near as I can tell (hard, cracking rubber gaiters) the isolastics on my '71 roadster have not been touched so I ordered new Andover adjustable isos. I've read a few threads on doing this in situ, but they require a center stand which I don't have. This has to have been covered on this site, so...can someone direct me to a thread that will teach me how to do this w/o removing the whole engine/transmission unit from the frame? All help greatly appreciated. Terry
 
Or if you have a bottle jack and short piece of 2X6 or 2X8 and a couple of tie down straps , you can lift it and secure bike with these simple and cheap alternatives , I would save my cash for a centre stand .... just a poor maritimer though .....

Yeah - I know some folks remove center stands for various reasons. Certainly, I can see not having one on a racer but for a street machine, IMO, they are invaluable!

Back in the day you just would not have a center stand on your bike
You'd throw it over the fence with the indicators/choke slides/mirrors etc
But now I wish I had a center stand!!!!!
 
We did a lot of dumb things back in the day because we were young and wanted to look/act like racers! :)

I removed the air conditioning system that was in my first car (used 2-door Chevy) because race cars didn't have air conditioning! So I was miserable in the CenTex summer heat but I had my Mallory Ignition and STP stickers on the side windows so I was convinced that I LOOKED cool! For some reason, the girls preferred riding in a friend's Buick 4 door with air conditioning as opposed to my boy-racer car. Go figure... ;)

Thanks for El Thread, MexicoMike. All the other comments, interestingly enough, were about my absent center stand, which my bike was never equipped with. The guy I bought it from in Canada gave me one, but when I went to put it on, NO holes in the rear supports. Reading in this sight I discovered they were not so equipped until some point in '71 or '72.

The early model ('68 - '70) centre stand fitted to brackets (06.0416) welded to the cross-member below the gearbox (06.0416)

'1971' and later frames had the cross-member further forward so the centre stand was then mounted on the engine cradle.

If your Commando's frame is earlier than 141783 with the rear cross-member but no mountings for the stand then they have been cut off. If later than 141783 and there are no holes for the centre stand then it's possible the cradle has been replaced with one from an early model.
