Is anyone aware of any gas tanks from other bikes that would fit a Norton Commando? I am frustrated by the size of my roadster tank and the Interstate tank is expensive. I am wondering if I can retrofit something from another motorcycle?

Sell your roadster tank on ebay and with the money buy an interstate tank. The cost of the interstate tank will be in a new perspective when supplemented by the roadster tank.

Since the tank, seat and side covers are different between the Roadster and Interstate, maybe you can work out a swap with an Interstate owner who wants to go Roadster.

For me, 130 miles or so is enough time in the saddle before taking a break. I can't see spending 300 miles on a Commando at a stretch. I've gone up to Daytona and back in a day - 2 tanks up, two tanks down. Roadster isn't bad on the highway with your feet on the back pegs, but a walk around every two hours is welcome.

I marched in the first Earth Day in NYC, but was too young to go to Woodstock.

Well, ya could buy one of these reproduction ones. (from India) Blimey, made of steel and it's even painted  (I wouldn't give a wooden nickel for an OEM Norton fiberglass tank, but these steel Indian ones might be worth a try.) Quality probably varies from one to another ... at least some I've seen even gets the stickers on crooked  just like many OEM Norton ones I've seen

Added plus is if ya buy one, you can give a review here to the rest of us :D

I was at UMD during Woodstock. I kind of wanted to go, but maybe was glad I didn't. Some of my friends went, I was out of the army and married by then. Interesting times. My favorite album is still CSN&Y. I guess that says a lot.

I could have gone to woodstock, was floating around the south china sea for the first earth day ( I think) and can only manage about an hour before I have to stretch the legs.

But the 60 year old bladder pretty much ensures I'll be taking a break regularly anyhow

Try Commando Specialties, they have had tanks, and if they do I'd be inclined to trust the pedigree. They do have side covers.

The debut album with 'Marrakesh Express' and 'Suite Judy Blue Eyes' or the last one with 'Just a Song Before I Go'?

I still have a soft spot for Led Zeppelin, but also really like The Faces, early Moody Blues, the Kinks, the Rolling Stones, especially the albums from 'Beggar's Banquet' through 'Sticky Fingers', the Who, Cream, Yes, Procol Harum, King Crimson, Yardbirds - you get the picture.

For North American bands - anything with Stephen Stills and/or Neil Young, the Velvet Underground and most of Lou Reed's solo stuff, Frank Zappa, Carole King, James Taylor, Spirit, the Band, early Chicago, the Beach Boys, Blood, Sweat and Tears (the band with Kooper and the first album with Thomas), old outlaw country (Willie, Waylon, Johnny Cash), a lot of early punk (Dead Kennedys, Talking Heads, Blondie), a lot of Motown, straight jazz, especially Be-bop (Dizzy, Miles, Bird), etc.

Actually, I like a pretty wide variety of music

I've got a Beach Boys album, 'All Summer Long', which has two versions of 'Little Honda'

the album version has the line, 'it climbs the hills like a Matchless 'cause my Honda's built really light'
in the single version, the line goes, 'it climbs the hills like a champ 'cause my Honda's built really light'

Déjà Vu and the one called simply CS&N (Judy Blue Eyes).

I have a pakistani tank that I got from Duane at Commando Specialties. It looks great all painted up, holds gas (which is unlike my fibreglas tank did after the ethanol even ate through the tank liner stuff that I used)

I think he stopped selling them but a quick e-mail will confirm/deny this.
