I have a 1970 Norton Commando, and I am attempting to remove the speedo and tach to clean up the handlebars.... but I'm curious if others have done this, what solutions did you come up with for the removal of the speedo drive unit, and the opening on the motor for the tach cable? Any pictures or thoughts would be helpful.... Thanks.

Can put back a gutless spdo drive with its top hat spacer or make up a spacer. Tach drive plugging, me and my buddy used the nut off tack cable end and JBW top hole shut then nip up with a bit of goop. Need some bit of spacers once the clock cups are removed so top bolts don't bottom too soon or get shorter lighter cap bolts.

Why would you NOT want to have a Speedo on a road bike?
While racing on a track.... a tach is good especially if you are running close to redline...Speedo not so useful. What will you gauge your speed with when you see a Nice Policeman tracking you with radar? Engine sound?

You can make a blanking plate yourself for the tach drive or you can buy a really nice one from CNW. For the speedo drive, a machinist could make a single spacer to replace the big spacer + the speedo drive + the top hat bushing, it can be made out of aluminum so it will not rust, I haven't looked, but maybe CNW has one in stainless steel all polished up.

Im not quite sure what your on about "clean up the handle bars", Less clutter??? I've been lookin at gauges lately and you can get a "speedo/ tacho combo" in a large single gauge (4"ish?? electronic)....Pending on your ilk :D :D :D

I like the cluttered look. Plus what you're thinking here is illegal. The thoughts are legal, removal of speedo illegal ,is what I was thinking .

I'm going to paint the case green like my wheels, does that count?

Yes it arrived, did yours?

Our mail system is a bit broken. I shipped a package to Belgium, it went from here to Chicago, up to Canada, and back to Chicago????

A 5 day side trip to Canada.
