Hi All

New to the forum and to owning a Norton.

I have a Norton Commando 750 `1973` and would like to take the indicators off it which would seem pretty straight forward, but the orange indicator light would still be on the headset and indicator switchers on the handlbars, so wondering how I would get on with the next MOT.

Any advice please.

Thanks Jason

By MOT we assume you're somewhere on an island off the coast of France?

Yes you assume correctly, the island that regularly gave the French a Damn Good Thrashing , in particular that short chap who wore his hat the wrong way round.

Removing the indicators (and taping any wiring back out of sight) should be enough to satisfy the MOT tester.

Presence of a switch, or unused warning lamp should not result in an MOT failure-at least not according to the MOT "reason for rejection" rules, however, if in doubt, I suggest you ask the actual MOT tester concerned beforehand, as individual testers can interpret the MOT rules differently.

Thanks for the information L.A.B, will remove and tape off the wires.
Cheers Jason :D

The 1972 bikes had indicator switches and no indicators........

Personally in these very busy islands with lots of traffic, I would think 3 times before removing the indicators.....if you want to sell them, then I would be a buyer as my 72 needs them.

Hi Charles

Thanks for the offer but will keep the indicators when I take them off, for when I re sell the bike at some point.

Thanks Jason

Hi Jason welcome to the site. So that Island off the coast of France, you live in Jersey then

Any particular reason for removing the indicators? After riding bikes with no indicators it became a pain in the backside sticking my arms out left or right to signal my intentions, I have found that turn signals are a lot safer!

Oh, Just figured out how to do 'quotes' your'e my first one!

Hopefully not for when your WIDOW sells your bike... SERIOUSLY, there are a good percentage of people who have no clue what hand signals mean. A member over at the BritBike forum was rear-ended last summer, while signaling a turn. I'm just sayin.

Hi CB & Concours

Nice quote :D

Thanks for the advice and I know makes no practical sense but just think the bike looks so much better without the indicators, and did Norton design them them on lamp posts ?
