I am having trouble removing the two cylinder head nuts next to the exhaust rocker covers. The ones accessed from the top of the motor. I cannot get my deep socket to fit through the fins in the head. What type of spanner or mods to spanner are required to remove these nuts? Do I need to grind the deep socket down to a size that will fit? Or what?

Thanks
Don

A 3/8" square drive 1/4 Whitworth socket is thinner so normally fits in the holes.

A 1/2" square drive socket is too big.

Edit: You didn't mention the No.1 bolt, as that normally requires a 3/8" socket to reach it and is the one that should be unscrewed last (and screwed in first when replacing the head).

I had purchased these Whitworth Sockets (Cannot remember where but got them online) and they fit perfectly in the well to get the nut out.
