I am in the process of replacing my Boyer Bransden ignition with a Tri spark but am unable to remove the old Boyer rotor, should this just slide off or do I need some kind of extractor? Any suggestions for removing it without damaging it (in case I want to reinstall)?

Screw in a bolt (I think it is 5/16") and give it some gentle taps to loose the taper.

Slide hammer

My Triumph type pin extractor was to short and couldn't find the slide hammer tool so ended up using one of the bolts from a sprocket puller.
With a large washer under the head of the bolt the 36mm double ended socket for the Ducati's SSSA nut worked a treat as a slide hammer.

Screwing the larger bolt into it will push the rotor off without any hammering....

Is someone able to confirm that the correct extractor bolt to use for the Boyer Bransden is 5/16 BSF. I made the rather stupid mistake of trying to use the bolt supplied with the Tri-spark until I realised too late that this is metric and I have slightly damaged the threads.

Just checked an old rotor. Thread is hurt a bit as well, but a 5/16" UNF bolt works.

If threads are damaged so no bolt will thread in, take the largest diameter phillips screw driver you've got, enter it into the cam and give a few sideways slaps on the handle with the palm of your hand. It will pop right off. Works on points cam too.

Thanks to all who replied. It was a UNF thread, I found a bolt and worked it in and it just popped off. Now all I have to do is explain to a mate who was making a BSF threaded slide hammer for me why I gave him the wrong info re threads and that I don't need it anyway!
