1961 650cc: I am in the teardown stage of restoring the engine on my Manxman. I need to remove the engine/transmission installation from the frame. This in turn requires removing the alternator and clutch. Questions I have about removing the alternator and clutch include:
* What special tools do I need such as pullers?
* The nut that holds the alternator in place: Is that RH thread? A lot of bikes have LH threads here.
* Pulling the clutch: Any special tools needed or procedures?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

HI, The alternator should pull off without special tools as its on a straight shaft. The woodruff key should be levered out with a small screwdriver. The nut is a normal thread ,undo anti clock. The clutch is the same but can stick a bit. The big issue is the engine sprocket which can be really tight on its taper , If you can borrow the Proper NORTON twin leg puller (not the commando one) fit tight and give a whack it will come off with a bang. I have such a tool, they are very rare!!, NO you can't borrow it!.Best to get all the nuts loose before removing the clutch .

A 3 inch, 2 leg gear puller works for me to remove engine sprocket. I never had to fuss with the clutch ... just remove the center nut (RH) and the thing slips off the spline.

Any pics of the Manxman before you pull it down, I am building one now but it will be in caferacer form as i don't have the parts to make it stock, mine came in boxes when I brought it, ex racer.
