Its been some time now that Phil got kicked off the forum because of his humrous Aussie ways, its a shame really as Phil is a nice person, I met him a few weeks ago when he was up in Brissy, he has a Norton business now and gets his engine rebuilds up here in my home town, he came around to check out my Nortons and bikes, pitty he didn't have time for a few beers with me, but next time he will make the time.

He got kicked off because a few members didn't like his funny stories and complained about them, I wish a lot of folks on this site didn't take things so serous, Phil has done a lot of travels world wide, he has met Jerry, also Steve (hobot) and a few other good members here.

I might get a few who will disagree with me but really I don't care, no one should get kicked off for trying to have a bit of fun and a bit of humour on the way, I know a lot of Wanks don't understand our Aussie humour and take things to serously, a bit of fun on the way don't hurt anyone.

Maybe its one of the reason our good friend Steve (Hobot) is not on much these days, so many takes things to serous, with the way things are going in the world a bit of humour and fun on the way helps.

This is my opinion and if it gets up some people noses, I don't really care, bring back a bit more humour and fun, life is a bit boaring without it.

This has been on my mind for sometime now, Phil has no idea about this thread and I hope he gets the chance to come back.

Yes, this is all supposed to be for FUN.

I seem to recall though some rather obnoxious words from some of those ex-communicated gents ?
Which didn't go down too well especially when directed at LAB and Jerry !
Some persistent misinformation gaffs too, not to mention some complete tosh. ?
All water under the bridge now.

In previous times, no doubt the inquisition would have sorted them out.
Their computer persona may well be rather different to meeting them in the flesh, however...

Many forums have completely excised all political and religious crap due to the friction and distraction they cause, but other than getting personally offensive, I don't know why someone would be banned. A forum is a place for debate, so as long as people stick to the actual subject and don't get personal, who cares? Some people have even been known to throw out 'alternative facts' to stir debate and get more educated and informed. 8) The nature of debate is not right vs. wrong. it's take a side and try to defend it.

Every forum seems to have a clown prince that gets away with more than normal members. I guess some are allowed to stay for their entertainment value. Also, some forums (not this one) are run by folks with a certain political bent that does not tolerate differences of opinion. Once a person is identified as 'not within the norm', it's only a matter of time until they are goaded into saying something that gets them booted.

I don't know the circumstances behind this guys banishment. but the powers that be seem pretty tolerant around here (they put up with me, don't they?). Maybe there was more going on with this than most people knew?

Like I said Phil met Jerry and out of fun he asked Jerry why he was banned, Jerry said he didn't ban him it was LAB I have no problems with LAB as he knows his stuff and has help me out a few times, but a few members got in his ear about Phil and he banded him, it only takes a few to complain and thats that, not fair I think when so few can decide that, Jerry relies on LAB to run the forum for him but I think he made a mistake and most of his fun was in the pub.

Phil was banned by popular demand from from members. Les used to get many complaints.

Let's get something perfectly clear
Phil wasn't banned because of his "humorous (to some perhaps) ways" Aussie or otherwise, but because he had become a thorough pain in the neck.
I did receive several complaints from other members and he was given more than one chance to 'tone it down a bit' all of which were ignored therefore he had to go. It is unfortunate as I thought Phil was a genuine enthusiast but he was just too much and too full-on all the time.

If anyone wishes to refresh their memory they can read through one of Phil's last threads to see the level of annoyance he was generating (especially the last few pages).

Well, I care and I'm disagreeing with you.

For the most part, all he succeeded in doing was annoying several other members and generally disrupting the forum with his relentless over posting, constant interjections in other members' threads and repeatedly going off topic. Whilst I'm sure most members don't mind the occasional bit of humour and banter it's perfectly clear that's not what the vast majority come to accessnorton for.

No, he won't be allowed back.

That's strange, and not how I remember it as I believe it was Jerry who finally pushed the ban button but no matter which one of us it was he was overdue to go.

A few!!!!!! I don't think you have the slightest idea how much of an annoyance he had become.

Maybe you don't mind spending every other evening replying to PM's from disgruntled forum members attempting to explain to them "why Phil Yates was still a member of the forum" but I bloody-well do, and I could seriously have done without it.

I totally disagree and I stand by that decision 100% whether it was actually me or Jerry who finally did the banning we were both in agreement that he had to go for the general good of the forum. And if you read Jerry's comments in the final post in the above thread link before he locked the thread you should see Jerry was as thoroughly pissed off with him as I was by that time.

Now sadly, you are talking nonsense because we didn't even have the 'Pub' section at that time.

As far as Phil is concerned it's case closed.

Hobot can speak for himself.
He's old enough to know his own mind so as he has chosen not to post here as frequently then that was his decision. I know some like his odd 'style' of writing while just as many others have said they do not.

All good LAB and JERRY, I didn't mean to upset anyone, just through I needed to know thats all, didn't mean to stir the pot, as I have said I have met him and he's a nice guy and doesn't carry on like that in real life and now I got a response from you you can lock this topic if you want as when I wrote it I had a few wee beers in me and its in the pub anyway.

I had a mixed experience with Phil , the last PM that Phil sent me was quite frankly sick to say the least he must have been drunk or on drugs to have come up with that pulp. He would have caused a row in an empty house but he was a funny guy and I did enjoy his banter . I'm sure I was close to getting the order of the boot myself on a few occasions but if les read phils last PM to me no wonder he was shut down.

Jimmy.

Yes this forum is for us to discuss classic bikes and related as well as trying to stay focused. Thanks for your accurate post Les. Phil visited us here in California. He is a good person. I have set him up on a facebook account. That is more suitable for him.

Have a great evening everyone. I am closing this thread now.
