Red Top Spring

I have had the forks off 3 or 4 times since I have owned the bike. Always wondered why the tops are painted red. Are they that way for a reason or is just one more thing my Norton does to MAKE ME CRAZY.

That is rather rare to see now a days but colors indicated the spring rate at a glance.
