Very Good . 10 / 10 . First Class . Topping Wot . But PRIME the oiling system ( Crankshaft / Oil Pump . BEFORE start up . PLEASE . 8)
i'm actually not allowed to start it for the first time  for the guy to warranty his work on the motor he needs to do the first startup. It's not a terrible idea though because included with the price of the rebuild, he's going to set the timing, carbs, check the oil flow, and get it all setup and running correctly. i'm going to insist on doing the kicking though (don't imagine he'll argue)Matt Spencer said:Very Good . 10 / 10 . Snorton74 said:Prime the crankshaft with about a teacup full of oil. This is most easily achieved with an oil syringe, a piece of flexible pipe, and a spare rocker feed pipe banjo which can be connected at the rear of the timing case. I was just reading this procedure, thought I'd share. Sorry I missed that last post.
it is not...i tried and tried to talk myself out of buying a new (i'm SO over budget) but i think i'm going to have to, it's pretty rough. Plus i just noticed i put the nut for it on backwards when i rebuilt it, so since i have to take it apart i guess i'll get a new one :evil:Torontonian said:Great thread ! Is the primary on yet as I note a worn gearbox sprocket and a new one is cheap and a big future labour saver , march on !

yeah i paid NO attention to it when i put it on, which of course murphy's law means i put it on the wrong way!Torontonian said:The chamfer on the big nut goes towards the new sprocket. This is because the sprocket is slightly dished on the outboard side. Proceed.
the chances of me getting it right the first time are about the same as the leaf's making the playoffs :wink:Torontonian said:Plus if it can happen it will. Why does the dropped piece of toast always land jam side to the floor?
i spent a good half hour just looking at it, and every time my wife walked into the garage i would hurry up and look busy like i wasn't just standing there looking at it 8)DogT said:Don't you love it when it starts looking like a motorcycle? Keep it up.
