i'm actually not allowed to start it for the first time  for the guy to warranty his work on the motor he needs to do the first startup. It's not a terrible idea though because included with the price of the rebuild, he's going to set the timing, carbs, check the oil flow, and get it all setup and running correctly. i'm going to insist on doing the kicking though (don't imagine he'll argue)

Prime the crankshaft with about a teacup full of oil. This is most easily achieved with an oil syringe, a piece of flexible pipe, and a spare rocker feed pipe banjo which can be connected at the rear of the timing case. I was just reading this procedure, thought I'd share. Sorry I missed that last post.

Great thread ! Is the primary on yet as I note a worn gearbox sprocket and a new one is cheap and a big future labour saver , march on !

it is not...i tried and tried to talk myself out of buying a new (i'm SO over budget) but i think i'm going to have to, it's pretty rough. Plus i just noticed i put the nut for it on backwards when i rebuilt it, so since i have to take it apart i guess i'll get a new one

The chamfer on the big nut goes towards the new sprocket. This is because the sprocket is slightly dished on the outboard side. Proceed.

Very well done, your dad would be very pleased with your work, can't wait to hear about your first ride and make sure you get it recorded, all the best with the rest of the rebuild.

yeah i paid NO attention to it when i put it on, which of course murphy's law means i put it on the wrong way!

Plus if it can happen it will. Why does the dropped piece of toast always land jam side to the floor?

the chances of me getting it right the first time are about the same as the leaf's making the playoffs

May 4 th 2004. ,45 year win drought (need a beer just saying that gets me thirsty). Worth U.S. 521 Mil. in 2011, NHL's most valuable followed by N.Y. Rangers. Then the HABS. Torontonians shell out the coin knowing we don't place ,go figure.

Oh Oh Leafs and Habs mentioned in the same thread, this could go bad like that CB750/Norton thread...

Don't you love it when it starts looking like a motorcycle? Keep it up.

i spent a good half hour just looking at it, and every time my wife walked into the garage i would hurry up and look busy like i wasn't just standing there looking at it 8)

I'll keep my mouth shut about the habs. As for the leafs, my brother in law is from toronto and now lives in vegas, me being a flyers fan we love to give each other shit (i get leaf's gear every xmas as he does flyers swag) i'll tell you one thing though, i love Luke Schenn, but that JVR trade might put you guys over the top if he ever plays like he's capable and stays healthy. I was sad to see him go.

Beautiful sunny day out today and i couldn't help myself from putting the tank and seat on and snapping a few shots
