Rear Wheel Bearing Question

Good day, all! I am replacing the wheel bearings in my '74 Commando and have a quick question. When I put the lockring on the rear wheel and tighten it down as tight as I can get it, it doesn't sit "flush". Does this pic look correct, or should the lockring tighten down a bit more? I fear I may not have the bearing seated all the way, but thought I'd ask the experts first!

No expert by any stretch of the imagination, but that's correct for the nut. It needs to have some clearance, as it's built to clamp the bearing's outer race before bottoming out. My 74 looks just like that, as it did the very first time I had the rear wheel off.
