Hi can anyone tell me if the swing arm has an off set, as I am re laying both wheels and it looks to me as the rear wheel has a slit offset to the left ? Many thanks. John ( norwich. Norfolk)

There are many posts on here about the subject of wheel offset an alignment. I remember something about earlier swinging arm being offset an that but the mk3 it was reset central.

The Commando engine cradle is normally offset approximately 3/16" to the left of the frame centreline, so the swinging arm (including the Mk3) should have an equal amount of opposite offset at the rear-otherwise the lower shock mounts would be out of vertical alignment with the upper shock mounts on the frame, consequently both shocks would lean to the right.

Rear "wheels" (wheel rims) found to be offset to the left of the frame centreline seems to be reasonably common Commando quirk, but can be corrected easily enough by altering rim offset.

You should also find swing arm L leg has less flair outward, straight run than R leg till they both straighten out nearer axle. Cradle offset to L is said to allow chain to clear 110 or 4.10 tire but no one seems to know why Norton laced rear rim to L of center. Undetectable handling change if more centered. If it does make some difference I never want to experience the situation I could tell. First time I tired to center mud guard to tire drove me bonkers as thought damaged goods till told nope. Oh yeah all Commando only have rear swing arms.
