I am mounting a old style tail light fairing on my 850 and I am suprized to see that they use the fiberglass tip as part of the clamp to hold the fender on. Of the two bolts that go through the "clip" that clamps the fender to the rear frame loop one threads into the tip of the fairing. Is there a trick or general good practice to do this so it doesn't break over time with the stress and vibration? I've read a lot of old threads but didn't come up with anything. I would hate to break this fairing, it is a very good condition original Norton part. Thanks.

Yes your correct but what I mean is that the tip of the fairing with the threaded inseart is the " nut " for the bolt that goes through that clip part #4. I guess it works, people have been using it for years.

Well I bought my Commando new in 1972 & that is one of the few parts that I haven't had to replace or fettle over the years. Am touching wood as I say this.

:)

Ian..
