Just wondering what variations there were of rear fenders. I know of only two main differences, a difference in the drilling of the holes for the taillight and the difference in the location of the dzus fastener required by the use of different length tanks.

RE the location of the dzus fastener, I understand this was to accomodate the difference in tank length of the smaller tank used on the manxman and some other models (ealry us market atlases?). As I understand it, the seat was modified to put the mounts futher to the rear to accomodate the tank. That caused the dzus fastener to be relocated on at least the manxman.

Are there any other fender differences. I am looking for a good manxman fender and would like to know which model rear fenders might work without welding up the holes and relocating them.

By the way, I find this catagory confusing since it seems to include some but not all twins and some but not all featherbeds.

Best to all and thanks. M

The two variants you mention are the only two of the valanced style. The only other type I know of is the rear guard fitted to the 650 Mercury.

I recently became aware that there were different profiles of rear guards. Specifically that early 650ss had a higher less rounded profile to accommodate 19inch wheels. When viewed side by side without a seat it is quite obvious. I suspect later in production the profile was amended so that it accommodated both 18 and 19in wheels.
